Zuko felt like he had been walking for hours as he carried the two siblings across the ice in the blizzard. Lost in thought as he was looking for shelter, Zuko was quickly brought back to reality when he felt the ice crack beneath him. Seeing no other way out, Zuko ran as fast as he could while he carried the two siblings before he jumped onto solid ground, dropping the two benders.
Once Zuko regained himself, he looked for the two, though his eyes only truly landed on Y/N, he quickly made his way over to her, supporting her with one hand as he knelt down next to her, he softly brushed her hair out of her face. He admitted he was becoming worried that she still hadn't woken up.
Frantically looking around, his eyes landed on a nearby cave. Looking down at Y/N and Aang one last time before he hoisted Y/N over his shoulder once more and picked up Aang as he made his way towards the cave for shelter. Once inside, Zuko somewhat dropped Aang onto the floor, before he gently placed Y/N down beside him. He then proceeded to tie Aang up with rope, before he took his seat opposite Y/N and started a fire to keep them warm.
"I finally have you... And I can't get you home because of this blizzard. There's always something, not that you would understand" Zuko spoke mainly to himself though he directed his words towards Aang as he stood up and made his way towards the entrance of the cave. "Not that you would understand. You're like my sister... Everything always came easy to her. My father says she was born lucky, he says I was lucky to be born. I don't need luck though I don't want it. I've always had to struggle and fight, and that's made me strong, it's made me who I am"
It was during this conversation with himself that Y/N began to wake up. Slowly propping herself up, Zuko turned around and was quickly at her side to help her. "You're a good man at heart Sparky, don't forget that." Zuko only smiled at the girl before him until he noticed her shivering. "Here, let's warm you up" Zuko spoke in almost a whisper as he wrapped one arm around her, pulling her towards him. "Perks of you being a fire-bender? You're always warm" Y/N spoke as she rested her head on his shoulder, causing Zuko to smile to himself.
The two stayed like that, making small talk until Y/N fell back asleep to Zuko playing with her hair. He didn't even notice she was asleep until he felt her burying her face into his neck, he couldn't do anything but smile down at her. He was so glad to have her back, even if it was just for a moment. He planted a soft kiss on her head before he rested his head against hers in an attempt to get some sleep himself.
It wasn't long until Aang came back from the spirit world. He looked around at his new surroundings and saw Y/N sleeping as she cuddled up to Zuko. 'When had they gotten so close?' He then tried to move but soon found that he couldn't due to the ropes. It was Aang trying to move that woke Zuko up "Will you quite your squirming! You'll wake her up!" Zuko whispered to Aang. Though it seemed that Y/N had already woken up during the two's encounter. Zuko shook his head mumbling a 'nevermind' as he got up to relight the fire that had gone out during his short nap.
Taking this moment as his opportunity for escape, Aang took a deep breath before he released it into the direction of Zuko, resulting in him being thrown into the wall behind him, as well as Aang being thrown out of the cave. Shaking her head Y/N shared a quick glance at Zuko before she ran to Aang's side, beginning to untie him.
It was then that Appa landed, and Zuko was knocked unconscious by Katara in attempt to help Aang and Y/N. Aang made his way towards Appa before stopping, seeing that his sister wasn't following. "We can't just leave him, he'll die out here."
"Sure we can, all he's ever done is try to capture Aang and kill us" Sokka spoke as he sat back down in Appa's saddle.
"You don't understand, I owe him this much" Aang looked at his sister as she gave him a pleading look before he thought back to when they were in the cave just moments ago. Zuko certainly wasn't trying to kill them, it was more the opposite. "Y/N's right, we can't leave him here to die." Aang agreed before helping Y/N to get Zuko onto Appa before Sokka proceeded to tie him up. Taking her seat next to Zuko the 6 made they way back to the city.Zuko had awoken during their journey but decided to remain how he was, he knew he would be outnumbered if he tried anything now. Hearing a cry of pain beside him Zuko slowly opens one eye to see Y/N sitting by him holding her head, though Katara quickly made her way over to check on her.
"Y/N? What is it?"
"I-I don't know, my head just started pounding and I suddenly started feeling faint"Zuko listened in to the conversation and learned that this was also happening to the princess and Aang, and soon found out that something had happened to the moon spirit. Soon they all landed in front of Zhao and Aang tried to reason with him about how killing the Moon spirit would hurt everyone, not just the water tribe. Seeing this as a good enough distraction, Zuko took this as his chance of escape, though he didn't expect Y/N to follow him.
Zuko stops in his tracks as he witnesses the Moon starting to darken, and quickly turns around when he hears Y/N calling out to him, only for her to start falling to the ground as her eyes began to glow. Without thinking, Zuko ran to the girl and caught her before she hit the ground. Something wasn't right, Y/N never collapses until her eyes stop glowing... "Zhao... That bastard!" Zuko carefully picked up Y/N bridal style and began to carry her somewhere safe. Though he is quickly caught off guard when Zhao attacks. Not having enough time to counter the attack, Zuko runs for cover before he gently places Y/N down "Don't worry Y/N, I won't let him hurt you anymore." Zuko spoke in almost a whisper as he tucked a strand of hair behind her ear.
"What's this? Protecting the Avatar's sister now are we? So the banished prince really has fallen for her, I didn't think it was possible, no matter." Zhao spoke with venom as he ran towards the couple before Zuko knocked him off balance.
"You're not touching her"
"And what makes you think she feels the same way? After all, you're nothing more than a banished prince, even you're own father doesn't want you back"It was at this that Zuko finally snapped. He sent fire-ball after fire-ball towards Zhao, who only deflected them on impact. The two then broke out in a close combat fight, with every hit Zhao threw, Zuko dodged and countered with his own until Zuko finally knocked Zhao onto the bridge below and began gaining the upper hand causing Zhao to fall.
Zuko wasn't sure what happened next, one minute he was about the defeat Zhao, the next he was back on the upper ledge, watching as the water took Zhao. "Thank god..." Y/N whispered to herself as she began to run towards Zuko. Turning to face her, he held his arms out with a smile as she ran into his hug.
"That was you?"
"Manipulating the ice beneath you to transport you here? Yea, that thing with Zhao, not so much."
"At least you're alright, you had me worried."
"I had the great Zuko worried? Since when did you get soft sparky?"Zuko couldn't help but smile at her remark, before remembering where he was "I should go, and you should find you're brother"
"What?"
"It's my mission to capture you, both of you..."
"And you're letting me go?... Letting us go?"
"More like giving you a head start" Zuko smiled as he slowly lifted her chin with his finger before he cupped her cheek, stroking it with his thumb. "After all, I'm always going to find you"Y/N smiled as she slowly wrapped her arms around his neck, playing with the ends of his hair "Well, I guess I better go then." Zuko hummed in response, letting her walk past him, though it pained him that it had to be this way, he saw no other way things could work out. Shaking his head Zuko fixed his mind on one thought. "Screw it" Zuko grabbed Y/N's wrist and pulled her back to him, spinning her in the process, before his lips collided onto hers. One hand wrapped around her waist while he moved the other back to her cheek.
Y/N let out a surprised gasp when Zuko grabbed her, but she quickly relaxed when he kissed her, and her hands soon found their way back to his neck, before she slowly brought them down to rest on his chest as they broke apart.
"I will find you again" Zuko promised as he rested his head against hers.
"I know, but I won't make it easy on you".And with that, they both bid farewell. Each with a pain in their chests, at least until they met again.
A/N - Hey! I know I don't write notes often, but I just wanted to say thank you so much for somehow managing to read it this far, I honestly didn't expect it to get this many views, it was only meant to be a bit of fun. Sadly however this is the end of the book, though I've decided I am going to make a second one, still following the show.
I really hoped you all enjoyed this chapter, I tried to make it as Zuko X Reader-y as possible without making it all smooshy xD, Also sorry if Zuko seems a little out of character in this, it felt right in the moment while I was writing it.
