"In keeping with tradition, we will be doing the Blood Moon Ritual on the eve of the first blood moon in years," my father says as we all gather for the next meeting. "The skinwalkers of Squirrel Hill have always participated in the Blood Moon Ritual. Now, my wife, Daisy, will explain what the Blood Moon Ritual is."

My mom takes the stage then.

"As many of you know, the Blood Moon Ritual takes place typically within a week of the blood moon's rising. But this one is going to be different, because this time, it will be a full moon. So that means that for a solid week, all skinwalker children will not be in school, as we all are celebrating."

Excitement hangs palpable in the air and people talk amongst themselves. No school the week before school is over with is perfect.

"But this means that we are all taking part in the Blood Moon Ritual, and the Wild Hunt that follows it. For those who don't know or don't remember, the Wild Hunt is unlike anything any of you have ever experienced. It is bloody, it is gruesome, and it is basically a blood bath. The kids ages ten and younger will not be participating this year in the Wild Hunt. It is for your safety."

Murmurs ripple through the crowd.

"But the Blood Moon Ritual is where the most fun is. There, we sacrifice a small, injured animal to the gods, as a way to please the beast within each of us. Once we have each joined in the rituals, the ceremony will be completed. We have a night for the Blood Moon Ritual, and another for the Wild Hunt. In between those, there will be parties with other species attending."

Cheers and whoops sound off, and Mom smiles.

"So, who's ready to celebrate?"

Everyone cheers.
