"Do you need a ride back home, Abby?" my mother asked Abby.
"Are you sure?"
"Come on in, Abby," I said.
"Thank you."
"I need to sit in the back and keep my leg elevated," I said and got into the back.
Abby got into the passenger side and my mom drove off from the hospital.
"How did you guys sleep?" my mom asked.
"Not well," I said. "Since they kept my leg up."
"I was afraid that my stitches were going to come open," Abby said.
"I am sure they put something over it to prevent it from opening up again."
"Yeah. They told me that until the stitches are removed, I cannot play any of the sports I am in."
"I'm sorry to hear that."
"I informed my coach and they said I can still come to matches to instruct everyone, but I just can't play along side them."
"At least you still get to keep your captain position."
"Yeah. Bad thing is, we never really established a co-captain position because we didn't think we would need to. We should have because being a captain has a lot of responsibility," Abby said.
"Maybe they could do that next year," my mom said.
"I'll suggest something to my coaches."
We dropped Abby off and when we saw her head into her house, we drove off back towards our house.
"Ellie was really worried about you," my mom said. "She had come over after school and asked if you were ok."
"I'll have to let her know I'm ok," I said and pulled out my phone.
"I think this move was a good idea. It may not have seemed like it at first with how Abby was treating you, but now it seems you two are becoming friends."
I smiled to myself when I saw Abby's name appear on my phone.
"Yeah. Same with Ellie and her friend Dina. I'm becoming good friends with them."
"Maybe the four of you can be friends together."
"I hope so."
A few days after we had to stay home, we were finally able to head back to school. I was still going to need help getting on and off of the bus. Thankfully Ellie was going to help me. And I had to keep my leg elevated. I got onto the bus and put my leg on the seat. I was leaning against the side and rested my head on the window.
Abby came onto the bus and looked at the back where her other friends were. She sighed and turned towards me. I smiled at her.
"You're welcome to come and sit. Just make sure my leg is elevated."
She nodded and slowly moved my leg up a bit. She sat down and rested my leg on her lap.
"How are you feeling today, Abby?" Ellie asked.
"I'm feeling alright. It's just weird with these bandages."
"How long do you have to keep the stitches in?" Dina asked.
"Roughly about a month. I need to go back there to get them out."
"Those are going to leave some nasty scars," I said.
"I've had worse," Abby said quietly.
"You have?" I asked.
Abby nodded her head, "But I'll get into it later. Not right now."
I nodded at her and before we knew it, we were at the school. We had to wait for everyone to get off since one had to carry the little scooter while someone had to help me walk. Abby carried the scooter while Dina and Ellie were helping me walk off the bus. When we got off, Abby set the scooter down and I rested my leg on it. I walked with them towards the door and inside the building.
"That is too much of a hassle," I said once we got in.
"How long until you're recovered?" Dina asked.
"Almost a month," I sighed.
"Damn," she whispered.
"Yeah. It's also not fun since my leg is elevated and out of my covers. So I have to wrap that leg in a different blanket. And I roll around in my sleep so it's harder and I constantly wake myself up," I sighed. "I'll get used to it probably."
The school day was pretty uneventful other than kids asking what happened. Since I did not want to tell people what happened, I lied and said it was just a leg injury. However, they wanted to know specifics, but thankfully Abby, Ellie, or Dina was there to get me out of that situation, since Ellie informed Dina on what happened.
"Hey, Y/N," Abby walked over to my locker before the last bell.
"Yeah?"
"The police officer got in touch with me. They're having a court hearing in a few weeks and we need to be there."
"A few weeks?"
"Yeah. He informed my father and your mother about it."
"Let's get that son of a bitch."
Abby smiled, "When we're done."
"I know," I smiled at her. "You want to hangout afterwards, right?"
"Y-Yeah. I want to take you over to this one place my friends and I used to go to. Well I should say, my peers."
"We can make new memories while we're there," I said.
"I would want nothing more," she smiled.
The last bell rang and we made our way towards the doors. Since Dina and Ellie were running a little bit late, Abby grabbed the scooter and helped me onto the bus at the same time. She helped me sit down and set the scooter in the back. She came back over to me and sat down next to me and placed my leg on her lap.
"Sorry we were running a bit late," Ellie said and walked over to us.
"It's alright. Abby took care of helping me," I said.
"I understand, Ellie. Don't worry about it," Abby said.
"Thanks, Abby," Ellie said.
"Do you need help getting off?" Abby asked.
"I think Ellie and I can manage. Besides, you're one of the first stops."
"I can always walk back home or wait for my dad to come and get me."
"I don't want you to do that. I think Ellie and I will be fine. Right, Ellie?"
"You got it!" Ellie smiled and winked at the two of us, making us chuckle.
