It was finally winter break and there was still no word on Abby's father and or Joel. Ellie was starting to grow worried now, but it wasn't like Abby's worry. Abby was still staying with us until she felt it was comfortable to head back to her place. I mean, I wasn't complaining or anything. It was nice to have her around.

My eyes fluttered open to find Abby was sitting on the edge of the bed. Her hair was out of her braid. I smiled to myself as my heart jumped at the sight of her with her hair down. It was so wavy towards the ends. I reached up and played with the ends of her hair. Her soft, silky hair running through my fingers made my heart flutter.

"Good morning, sleepy head," Abby said.

"Morning, Abs."

She let out a sigh and fell back down onto the bed. She turned and faced me, a small smile on her face.

"I see you like it when I take my hair out of my braid."

"I love it when you take it out of your braid. You look absolutely stunning."

She smiled once more.

"Anyone would be lucky to have you as a girlfriend."

"You're the lucky girl though," she smiled at me and pressed her lips lightly against my forehead.

"I am lucky, aren't I?"

"We both are lucky."

I reached behind her head and tangled my fingers in her hair.

"You really like my hair being down, don't you?"

"It's just so soft and silky. And plus seeing you with your hair down surprised me this morning."

She smiled, "I'm glad you liked the surprise."

"Are you up for a snow ball fight today?"

"You bet your ass I am," she smiled.

We both got ready and headed down to Ellie's. I knocked on her door and she opened the door. Thankfully, Dina was there with her.

"Hey, what's up?" she asked.

"You ready to be crushed in a snowball fight?"

"Oh-ho, you're on!" Ellie said. "We'll meet you in the park."

We headed down towards the park and waited for them there. A few minutes had passed and we saw them walking towards us.

"So, how are we going to do this first?" I asked.

"How about we do teams. You and Abby against Dina and myself. We will go until we have five hits on one another. Once we get five hits, that person is out. And once we finish that, we do all out. Same rules applies with all out," Ellie suggested.

"I am up for it!" I said.

"Count me in," Abby said.

"Alright, let's get set up," Ellie said and we all split up. We used the snow as coverage as well as the playground.

"Are you guys ready?" Ellie asked.

"We're ready!" I called back to her.

"3, 2, 1, GO!" Ellie yelled.

I grabbed one of the snowballs that was in our pile. Abby grabbed one and we slowly crept towards Ellie and Dina. We split up, which I think they had the same idea. Ellie popped her head out from behind part of the playground and I threw the ball, pelting her face with snow.

"Got ya," I said and ran for cover.

"You so asked for it," Ellie chuckled.

I turned to see Abby had gotten Dina.

After our snowball fight, which Ellie won the all out and Abby and I won the team, the four of us laid in the snow and watched the gray clouds roll in with a few more inches. Ellie reached into her pocket to see her phone had gone off. It was a message from Joel.

"It's from Joel!" Ellie sat up.

"Joel got back to you?" we all sat up at this point.

"He said, we ran into some trouble in the outskirts of Seattle. I am getting my brother for back up."

"Back up?" I asked.

"Did he say anything about my father?" Abby asked.

"Nothing," Ellie said.

Abby sighed and stood up.

"I think we should head back and warm up," I said.

"Great game you two," Ellie said.

"Yeah. Same to you," I said and we headed back to the house.

As soon as we entered the house, Abby turned towards me.

"I am going after him."

"Abby, no you can't," I said.

"What is stopping me?" she asked.

"What if the school finds out about this?"

"If the school finds out about us taking down some terrorists, they might have mixed feelings. But I don't care. I want to make sure my father is alright."

I nodded my head, "If it was my father, I would do the same. I would be scared shitless, but I would do the same."

"We leave tomorrow morning," Abby said.

"First, we need to gear up."

We headed out of my house and towards Abby's. We went into her basement to get rifles, guns, shotguns, anything that we would need to fight these Scars. We headed back to my house and hid them outside. We then headed down to Ellie to tell her what we were doing.

"If you're going, I'm going," Ellie said. "I want to make sure I am there for Joel."

"It's going to be dangerous, Ellie," I said.

"I don't give a fuck. I should be going with you. And Dina is more than capable of helping."

"We don't want to get you wrapped up in our business," I said.

"My friends business is my business," Ellie said.

"Alright," Abby said. "The more backup the better."

"But they're risking their lives."

"So are we, Y/N. You know once we step foot in their territory, there is no holding back. They're not going to be afraid of taking lives. So you need to be ready for a bloody battle," Abby said.

I nodded my head, "Ok."

"We're leaving at dawn. So we better rest up," Abby said. "We'll meet at the park and then we're heading out. We've got a long ride ahead of us tomorrow."

"Understood," we said.

We headed back to my house and we got ready for the night.

"I should tell my mother what we're doing," I said.

"I think it would be best," Abby said.

"I already know what you're doing," my mother said.

"Mom," I turned and looked at her.

"I know I can't stop you. You're going to go no matter what I tell you. I just want to say one thing, please be safe and watch after one another."
