"See you tomorrow Anne!" Diana chirped as she linked arms with Ruby before they both skipped out of the school house.

Anne waved as she placed her straw hat on top of her crown as everyone else trailed out of the school house.

Anne skipped down the forest trail home, humming lightly to herself. She enjoyed how the sun felt against her pale skin and she throughly enjoyed her walks home.

"Care for an apple m'lady?" a soft voice called from above, causing Anne to basically jump out of her skin letting out a small cry.
Anne's eyes scoured around only to just see the outline of Gilbert standing on a branch, leaning against the tree.

"Gilbert you nearly scared me half to death, what on earth are you doing in a tree?" she tried to fake her anger but the smile etching on her lips was giving her away.

Gilbert clambered down and walked towards her, an apple in his hand. His eyes gleamed in mischief as he bowed and gave her the apple.
She took it whilst laughing lightly.

"I wanted to surprise you, so when no one was looking i climbed up onto that branch and regained my cool mysterious pose and awaited for your arrival Anne-girl." He winked as they started walking.

"You are a strange one Gil, maybe that's why we get on so well." They both laughed as she nudged him in the arm.

"So shall we go to study?" he asked as he linked his arm through Anne's, he saw a speckle of red dart across her cheeks.

"I have to inform Marilla first so maybe we could walk to green gables and then set off for yours?" She was praying Gilbert would agree to escort her to her home and then his house, it would give them extra time to spend together.

Gilbert agreed of course, and so they were on their way to green gables. Anne and Gilbert chatted about books and flowers and occasionally they would play fight or Anne would go on and on as she usually does so Gilbert would proceed to listen extremely carefully to her every word. It was classic Anne and Gil.

They informed Marilla of the plan and she said it was fine. Anne was a bit annoyed as how when her and Gil went to leave Marilla was smiling knowingly at her.

"Why do adults always seem to know things before we do Gil?" she pondered as they headed to his house.

"No clue Anne-girl, i assume they just are wiser than us and of course they have probably had many more experience than us so they understand and recognise things we dont." Anne nodded in agreement.

"I can not imagine Marilla as a baby, i do have a very grand imagination but even it falls short on that subject." she giggled.

"I can neither imagine Bash as a baby, but it would be funny to see the pictures, imagine Bash and Marilla in baby bonnets with milk bottles." They both spouted into peals of laughter as they approached the Blythe house.

Anne had to wipe the corners of her eyes as they had become to dampen due to her excessive laughing.

Walking into the Blythe house Anne noticed how eerie silent it was.
Gilbert and Anne placed their books on the table as they shifted into the seats opposite one another.

"So where's Bash?" Anne questioned as she flicked to the geometry page in her textbook.

"Oh he's gone to Charlotte town with Mary for the night but he'll probably be back and skipping round the house harassing us for tomorrow's study session." Gilbert laughed and his eyes lingered on the red head as he saw her gleefully smiling.

"So shall we start on page 27?"

"Yeah that'd be great!"

* 2 hours later - 5pm*

"UGH." Anne groaned as she slammed her face against the textbook pages.

"Hey hey! don't give up, you got this!" Gilbert got up and swapped round to the seat next to her. Anne felt her heart race as his arm brushed hers, even tho there was fabric between them.

"I understand it but like i can't get it." Anne was five seconds away from pulling her hair out. Gilbert just laughed and explained it again to the girl, who was way too embarrassed.

"I'm so gonna fail." She grumbled.

"No you are not Annie. Today's only our first day, you have plenty of time. I believe in you. You are smart beyond compare." He rested his hand upon hers as their eyes met.

"Thank you Gil." Anne leaned towards him, her eyes glazing over in a romantically way over his cute nickname for her.
Gilbert leaned in towards the girl, his body aching for another brief touch with the girl that had enchanted him.

Slowly their heads leans forward, their lips were millimetres apart, their hearts were pounding.

All Anne and Gilbert wanted to do was kiss. To let their lips touch once again. But Anne remembered Ruby, she couldn't do that.

Pulling away, Anne coughed shortly.

"Uh i should um go. The sun is setting and Marilla will probably be worried out of her skin if i am back after dark."

Gilbert scratched the back of his neck as he tried to get over the previous awkward encounter.

"Sure, cmon i'll walk you."

-

The walk back was quite silent. The only company was the quiet chirping of the birds echoing through the forest as the sun set beneath the clouds.

"The sunset is so beautiful, isn't it?" Anne chirped in hopes to overcome the awkward tension that had built.

"Uh yeah, it's gorgeous." Gilbert smiled lightly.

They remained silent the whole way back.
Once they reached Green Gables Anne decided to overcome the awkwardness by pulling Gilbert into a warm embrace.

She felt him inhale in shock and let out a large grin.

"Goodnight Gil."
"Goodnight Anne-girl."
