Anne's boots scraped along the muddy trail of Avonlea woods, causing a thick layer of mud and snippets of twigs to attach themselves to the soles of her shoes. She huffed in dismay as she clutched a piece of writing in her left hand.
Anne was tired, to say the least. She had been up all night writing Ms Stacy an essay about reading during class. Anne couldn't help that she was a dunce at geometry and she couldn't help that a perfectly scrumptious book was laying just a few centimetres away from her work and was just begging to be read, she had to oblige and so now she's in this situation.
Slowly, she wiped the ongoing sleepy dust from her ocean blue eyes as she looked at the trees. Oh how lovely they look when the leaves blow in the wind and went the morning sun shines through the little gaps in the branches, Anne could sit and watch the trees all day- though of course she doubted Marilla would approve of such behaviour. Marilla had certainly disapproved of Anne's reading venture during class.
"Anne Shirley Cuthbert, you have such a tendency to get into trouble. Reading in class! Hmph."
Anne giggle lightly at the memory as she started walking properly, her mood lightening.
She hummed as she skipped up the path and into the school house.
When she entered she could hear the loud obnoxious chatter of the students as they talked about their weekend. Anne continued to hang up her hat before proceeding to enter the classroom with more caution then per usual.
Diana was already sat down and was speaking to Ruby. Anne stood silently and admired Diana for a while- isn't she a picture?! With those luscious raven locks and her perfectly plump rosy cheeks, oh how she wished she could look as pretty as Diana.
"Anne Shirley Cuthbert." She heard a warm voice say, she snapped out of her trance and spun around to meet a pair of gleaming hazel eyes- she nearly melted on the spot, nearly.
"Gilbert Blythe, what an unpleasant surprise." She spoke using more emphasis on the 'unpleasant'.
"Nice to see you too Anne." He chuckled lightly as Anne furrowed her eyebrows- it annoyed her how she could never get to Gilbert Blythe. How he could always wind her up but no matter how many insults she threw his way, he would never lose that boyish grin.
"Hmph." Anne sighed as she whirled around and walked to her seat.
She sat on the creaky bench and proceeded to chatter amongst the rest of the girls- but she could feel like she was being watched, and it was oddly concerning.
