Food Poisoning

      I woke up to someone throwing up in the middle of the night five days after the date. And 3 days before ethan asked me to be his girlfriend. The bathroom light was on and I opened the door. Saffara was clutching her stomach, her face pale and her cheeks sulken in. She looked like she was about to pass out.

      "I think it was food poisoning." She whispered.

       I looked at the toilet and saw throwup. But not the kind that happened after you just ate. It was the yellow kind. The kind that was all stomach acids.

       I turned back to Saffarra. She was skinnier than before, she had lost weight dramatically. My breath hitched in my throat, realizing what she did to herself.

       "What did you do Saff? What did you fucking do to yourself?" I asked.

        She looked up at me, "Nothing, I told you it's food poisoning."She responded hoarsely.

      "Why are you lying Saffara?! You haven't been eating! Do you know how dangerous that is?!" My voice was rising.

       "SHUT THE HELL UP!" She yelled.

     "I'm getting Ethan."

     "No!" She clenched her teeth and stood up. She took one step towards me and collapsed.

    "Saff?" I nugded her, she didn't move. "Oh my god." I stumbled out of the bathroom. "Ethan! Ethan!" I banged on his door. "Ethan!" He opened the door looking disheveled.

       "What?" He responded annoyed.

       Tears were starting to form in my eyes. "I-it's Saffara! I think she passed out!" His eyes widened. "She's in the bathroom."

      He ran over there. "C'mon Saff." He muttered. He checked her pulse. "Shit! Call the ambulance!" I bit my lip and nodded. I dialed 911 and told them the location and what the emergency was.

       "They're coming." I said. 5 minutes later the ambulance arived. They loaded Saffarra onto the stretcher.

     "Let me in." Ethan said to the paramedics.

     "Sir, we cannot let you into the ambulance." The paramedic said.

      "She's my sister! I need to be with her!" He yelled.

      "Sir, I'm sorry but you cannot come on the ambulance."

     I squeezed his hand which seemed to calm him. "Let's just meet them there." I whispered to him.

     He let out a breath. "Fine."

     We drove all the way to the hospital. Ethan got out of the car and opened my door. He seemed anxious when we walked through the hospital doors. He reached for my hand and gripped it tightly.

      God please, please let her be okay. Ethan went to go call their parents. He seemed to be arguing with them over the phone. "What do you mean you can't come?" He asked. "You came yesterday, so why can't you come today when she need you most?!" He paused to let them talk. "You're daughter is in the hospital and you can't come because of fucking work!?" He paused again. "Dont you dare say 'don't use that tone with me' you have a responsibility to take care of your children and for the past 18 years you haven't done that!" He paused. "You know what?! Don't come! Because I'm sure she wouldn't want to see you!" He hung up on his phone.

      He closed his eyes and rubbed his temple. I walked over to him. "Hey."I whispered.

      He opened his eyes, "Hi." He whispered back. I hugged him and he rested his head on my shoulder. "Do you think she's going to be okay?" He asked.

    The question caught me off guard, but I gave him my most honest answer. "I don't know. Saffarra is a fighter, she doesn't back down."

    Beatrice's head was laying on my shoulder, it was 2'o clock in the morning and I haven't went to sleep since we got here. Everything is going to be okay, don't worry. I was trying to get myself to believe it but I just couldn't.

      The doctor came ten minutes later. "Mr.Parker?" He looked around. I got up waking up Beatrice.

      "That's me." I said.  Beatrice was by my side.

      "Come with me please." He said and they took us to a room. It's either good news or bad news. Please be good news. "Your sister." The Doctor took a deep breath. "Your sister overdosed on appetite deppresants. I'm sorry to say, but she is in a coma." And that was when my whole world came crashing down.
