"Yes?" a shaky voice replied followed by a sniff. "Are..are you ok?" I asked. I waited but there was no reply. 'Stupid question anyway' I thought. I placed my hand on the door handle and slowly opened the door. Emily was sitting on her bed under the blanket with her legs pulled to her chest. She looked up at me with tears in her eyes. Her face scrunched up as she looked at me with sad eyes and more tears fell. I rushed over to her and pulled her into my arms. Her grip was so tight I thought she might break me. Sobs shook her body and tears soaked my shirt. She didn't need to say anything, I knew. We stayed there for awhile longer in till she stopped shaking and pulled away.
"Emily" I hesitated. "We have to tell your mom." She looked at me and shook her head violently "I-I can't. She already has so much to worry about already. Besides I was drinking and I -" Her voice shook and cut off. "Emily, this isn't ok. You really need to tell her." I said. She looked at me and let out a shaky breath and hung her head once more "I know..I just don't know how I-..dont even know if I can." I sat down on the bed and took her hand, staring at the pattern on the blanket. "I know it's scary but..the moment you start talking about it and getting real help it gets better. And.. we need to put whoever did this to you in jail" I looked up at her "Will you help me?" She asked. I nodded.
I woke up to the sound of the front door closing. We fell asleep in her bed crying and talking waiting for Aunt Judy to come home. I rubbed Emily's arm to wake her and tried to give her comforting smile but I could see the dread filling her eyes. "Its gonna be ok" I whispered. We sat up in the bed as Aunt Judy walked in. She looked a bit confused at first and then turned to concerned. "Is everything ok?" She asked. I grabbed Emily's hand and said "Aunt Judy, Emily has something she needs to tell you." She walked to the edge of the bed and sat down a bit hesitant she said "Okay"
Emily took a deep breath "I um... I know I'm not allowed but I..I went to a party and we were all drinking and I-" Her voice broke. "I-I'm sorry" she shook and squeezed my hand. I looked at Aunt Judy who still looked confused and quietly said "She was raped." I could tell Emily was crying as I watched the expression on my aunt's face shift to a mixture of realization, horror and anger. She jumped up and to her daughter to pull her into her arms as Emily's sobs shook the bed.
I got up and left the room closing the door behind me, figuring they would want privacy. I sat on the couch, staring at the wall. I'm not sure how long I was sitting there. My attention was pulled back to earth when Evan came through the door. Smiling at me he set his bag down and dropped his keys in the bowl. "Well hellooo. I'm hooome." He smiled and looked at me. I gave him a small half smile. "You should probably go find your mom." I said. "Um..okay. Are you okay?" He asked. I shrugged "You should really go." I ushered him. He walked away looking confused and I heard him knock on the door. I heard the door close and the soft mumble of voices through the wall.
It was quiet for a moment before I heard a booming voice "What??" I shook and brought my knees to my chest. I could hear Aunt Judy trying to calm him down but it clearly wasn't working because moments later I heard him yell again "No, this is not okay. I swear to god I'm gonna kill him. I'm going to kILL HIM!" I started to shake and I could feel my heart beating faster. I stood up and started towards the hallway right as I heard the door slam and heavy footsteps coming to the living room and took a step back.
I had never seen or heard him so mad before. I could feel myself shaking. His blue eyes were like fire and his jaw was set. "This is fucking bullshit! I'm going to kill him!" He yelled. I could feel myself start shaking even more. I had never seen him this way before and it scared me. His eyes landed on me and his gaze softened. His anger was replaced with regret "Oh my god. I'm so sorry. I'm so sorry Scar." He said so fast it was hard to understand. He made his way towards me but I stumbled back and fell on the couch. He looked a bit hurt but took a step back putting his hands up. He spoke slower this time. "You're okay Scar. You're safe, no one is going to hurt you. I'm sorry. I'm sorry" he spoke as he took steps towards me. I looked at him with pleading eyes while I panicked as my breathing sped up. I couldn't breath. He came towards me with his hands up. "It's okay Scar. You're okay" he pulled me in his arms while I shook and tired to breathe. I could feel the tears pooling in my eyes and I held onto him for dear life. I couldn't breathe and my heart was beating so hard and fast it's all I could hear. My head started to feel heavy and my vision went blurry. I felt myself start to fall and my vision went black.
