Is Death a real person? Or is it just a word we use in our daily lives, that all of us, believe it or not, will end up going through someday.
My name is Giovanni, but everyone calls me Gio. I have a family that includes my mom, dad, and my brother Kersten, and then there's me. My dad is never home though, he comes and goes as he pleases. It has been like that for a couple of years now, my mother had gotten quite used to it, although it was hard for her at first.
I am also the silent one of the family, yet I still strike up a conversation every once in awhile. But the person I talked to the most was Sarah, she was 4 years older then me at (would've been) 20. Sarah was by far my best friend, she didn't care if I said random things, thats how we clicked. Sadly Sarah was killed in a car accident last year. A part of me died that day, and it's long gone by now.
As I was sitting in my bedroom late at night, I heard a knock on our front door. Kersten was out at a friends house, of course. Probably drinking and doing stuff he shouldn't, ladies and gentleman, my brother.
"I'll get it!" I heard my mother yell.
Curiosity took me over when I slowly got off my bed and watched around the corner as an unfamiliar boy was yelling at my mom and demanding we let him stay at our house. For some reason, my mother was resisting and asking questions, eventually the boy was furious.
I heard my mother peep out, "Why?"
Before he had answered, he reached around his back and pulled out a gun, his jaw was clenched as he looked away and shot my mother.
"Don't ask me questions," His voiced rang through the living room. It was then that I had gotten a good look at him, black hair, stern face, and black eyes that held no emotion.
By this time my mom had fallen to the ground, he looked at her in disgust, I held my hand over my mouth to contain the shriek that was building inside of me.
The boy stepped over my mothers body, careful enough so he didn't touch her. The blood oozing out from what looked like her shoulder? Is she going to make it? I was watching in horror when the boy was walking around the living room looking at our family photos. Thats when he saw mine, he stopped for a second registering something. Although I couldn't see his face I saw his body tense up.
I backed away from the corner, thinking of an escape plan, but stepped on a floor board that creeked. The boys head snapped towards my direction. He started running towards the stairs, he was lightning fast, and being my clumsy self I was as slow as a turtle.
Once he caught up to me, he grabbed my wrist and looked at me, his face softened, and then it changed, he looked angry. I backed my face away and tried to pull my wrist from his hand, but his grip tightened more and more each time I pulled.
"Got it?" He said, strict as my father was. I nodded ferociously, my voice caught in my throat. "Now, can you show me a room where I can stay for a few weeks?"
"S...sure," I stuttered. My heart was pounding against my chest, I motioned my hand for a signal of him to follow me. I walked down the hallway to the guest room that was across from my room, I pointed at the door, afraid to speak.
"What's your name by the way?" His voice full of intent. It's funny how fast he can go from being angry to happy.
"Giovanni," I abruptly said, frightened of what he would say or do.
"Giovanni, I like that," The boy watched me intently.
Why was he so intrested in me? It's scaring me. "Thank you?" I said it in more of a question than a statement. My mind was going at a pace that I couldn't keep up. Questions being fired by the voice in the back of my head.
"You shall not be frightened, as I will not hurt you, unless you do not follow my directions," He said, nodding in reassurance.
"The bathroom is over there," I pointed to the restroom next to my room. I gathered my courage to ask the question that has been in my head this whole time, "Is my mother dead?"
"No, it was just a flesh wound, she should be fine," He replied, it wasn't even phasing him that he about killed my mother. What kind of sick twisted joke is this?
"Um, I am going to go now..." The silence getting to me, I was standing in the same room as a cold blooded killer, my eyes widened at my own thought.
"Wait," He called when I had taken a few steps away from him, "I never told you my name, it's Oscar, my friends call me Death though."
He opened the guest door, his figure disappearing behind the now closing door. I had to admit, I was scared, my body shook in fear. Death?
What do they say?
Curiosity Killed the Cat.
