Jace's POV
Baby. She's having a baby. And what did I do? I left her standing in a hallway. What the hell is wrong with me?
I have circled Central Park at least ten times now, and with each lap I feel more guilty and anxious than I ever have in my entire life. I'm so stupid! So what if I had a troublesome childhood, I can still be the best father in the century. Magnus will certainly vouche for that.
Right as I am about to run back to the institute, my phone rings. I wrestle it out of my pocket and stare at the caller ID. Isabelle. Oh great, Clary must have told her I sped off and now I'm going to get a huge lecture.
"I'm not in the mood for a lecture right now, Iz. I know I'm stupid, I'm going to fix it now." I say, half to her and half to myself.
"Jace, what are you talking about?" she asks, sounding breathless.
"Clary?" I say, dumbfounded.
"She's what I called you about! She's missing, the faeries took her and we don't know what they are planning on doing to her!" she screamed into the phone.
"What?!"
"Meet me in front of the entrance to the faerie realm and I'll explain." she says, and hangs up. Before I even know what I'm doing my feet carry me through the park, almost crushing an elderly couple on my way. I have one thing on my mind, and that's if the faeries have Clary, they have her for a reason.
Clary's POV
I woke up to a light seeming to burn holes in my eyelids. My eyes flutter, and I look around. I'm in a bed with a blanket made of woven flower petals drawn up to My chin, and there are two faeries in the corner of the room. Guarding me, I suppose.
I try to move, but my legs seem stuck to the mattress. I sit up, and try to wrench my legs free.
"I wouldn't try that," one of the guards says. "You're under a spell that keeps you from moving your legs."
Shooting the faerie a glare, I think about what has happened in the past day. Was it really just this morning that I took that pregnancy test? And how did I get to the farm house? Nothing seemed to make sense, And I had a huge headache. The blinding light above me wasn't helping.
My throat felt like sandpaper and my tongue like a desert. I wanted so badly to have something to drink, but I knew drinking anything from the faeries was a terrible idea.
"Why am I here?" I asked to no one in particular.
"Do you honestly think we would tell you?" one of the guards asked, incredulously.
"I honestly don't see what the Queen wants with her," the one guard whispered.
"The kid, obviously. You know of the powers it could have." the other hissed back.
"So are we just going to keep her here for nine months for her to have it?"
"That isn't our decision, but whatever the Queen wants to do, she better do it quick. I'm sure her friends are after her."
I stopped listening. What do they want with my baby? The fair folk have been known to take children, but not shadowhunter children. I felt sick.
Just then, a frantic faerie rushed through the door, and whispered something to the guards. They nodded, and walked over to me. I tried to back away, but my legs wouldn't budge. One guard took something out of his pocket, and held it behind his back. The other held me down. I thrashed as much as I could with my limited mobility, and effectively hit one in the face. He barely flinched, and I felt a tingling feeling in my left arm. I look over to see the last of the purple liquid in the syringe being injected into my bloodstream. The last thing I see before I fall out of consciousness is the ceiling explode into a thousand pieces of light.
