Clary's POV

The lights blinked a few times.  Each blink sent a new wave of anxiety through my body, some so strong I have to lean on the sink to regain my balance. Whatever I do, I will not cry. Taking in everything I have been through these past two years, the possibility of a baby is terrifying me. Way to be strong, Clary.

I walk out of the bathroom. Staring at a pregnancy test for two minutes won't help my nerves. I pace the hallway of the Institute. Jace and I decided that it would be best to stay at the Institute for a few years, until the Herondale mansion in Idris is completely redone. At the moment, I can't help but wish it was done already; Idris would be a much safer place to raise a child than New York.

I sit down in front of a grandfather clock, and watch the hands swing back and forth. The clock's ticking is calming. That is until I look at the time and I realize the two minutes are up. I think I might be sick. Slowly, I make my way back into the bathroom and shut the door behind me. I take a few calming breaths, and look at the stick.

I gasp. Two lines. Not one. I'm pregnant.

"WHAT DO YOU MEAN YOU'RE PREGNANT!?" Isabelle shouts. I figured she would be the best one to talk to first, since she is my only real girl friend. Clearly, that may have been a mistake.

"Iz, can you keep your voice down! I haven't told anyone yet and you're going to let the whole Institute know before I have a chance!" I whisper-yell at her.

She looks me up and down, squinting her eyes from time to time. Looking for a baby bump, I think. "So you're completely positive Jace is the father?"

"No, Isabelle, I just go around the city screwing every guy I meet in my spare time." I flash her a glare.

"Geeze okay, dumb question. Do you know how far along you are?"

I really haven't thought about it. I knew I had some major signs, and recently the morning sickness has kept me from training. Jocelyn was the one who tempted me to get a pregnancy test done, claiming "she knew all the in's and out's of pregnancy". I thought she was crazy, but the possibility bugged me so much that I bought one. Which has led me to where I am now, sitting on Isabelle's bed, the door to her room locked, and me scared out of my wits.

"If I had to take a guess, maybe two or three months?" I say.

"YOU GUYS HAVEN'T HAD SEX IN THAT LONG?!"

"Isabelle!" I scold her and smack her arm. "It's not that we haven't, it's my guess to how long the symptoms have been going on!"

Her eyes look triumphant. "I knew he wouldn't pass up sex for two months." I give her a death stare. "Okay, okay. Once you tell Jace, you should go the the doctor and see how far along you actually are. Also, you are gonna tell me the gender once you know because I am dragging you to go baby shopping ASAP."

"Deal. But do me a favor and don't tell anybody yet. I want to tell everybody on my own accords, and Jace's too."

"Ugh! Not even Alec and Magnus? They could make bombin baby clothes."

"Especially not Alec and Magnus!" I say, dying of laughter.

Jace's POV

I hear the soft tapping at my door, and shout, "Alec, whatever horrible things Magnus has done with you last night, I'm not interested in hearing about it!"

There is a soft giggle, and then, "Darn, I was dying to tell you a steamy story." It's Clary.

I groan, and make my way to the door. The handle turns and the hinges squeak, and Clary's small figure dodges to the side of me, bouncing into the room. Laughing, I shut the door behind me.

She looks like an elf. Her red hair hangs down across her chest in loose curls, and it stands out brightly against her light green sweater. Add that to her size, and she's pure elf material.

"What do you want, Fray?"

"Are you still going to call me that when we get married?" She asks, twirling her hair around her finger. "Because if so, I should have permission to call you duck boy."

I slap a hand to my forehead. After she found out that I was slightly scared of ducks, she never let me live it down. "Call me that one more time and you're out." I point to the door and put my other hand on my hip. She puts both her hands on her hips, mocking me. "What did you come here for?" I ask again.

She bites her lower lip. "I have something to talk to you about. And I don't know if you're going to like it or not, but either way, I think you should sit down before I tell you."

Confused, I sit in a white plush chair in the corner of my room. "Clary, you can tell me anything." I say.

"Okay.. so you know how I've been missing a lot of training sessions lately?" She asks.

Baffled, I respond, "Yeah, you've been sick."

"But I wasn't sick." She looks me in the eyes, willing me to understand. The problem is, I don't.

She takes a deep breath, and says "Jace, I'm pregnant."
