Forever Changed : 6

JJ's pov:
     "Forever and always, right?" I hear Hailey say. I whip my head up to look at her. Everyone else jumped. She was smiling and looking at me. I instantly started crying.
     "Oh my god!" Sarah says starting to cry.
     "Holy shit!" Kie says. "I knew you would make it through this." Hailey took her other hand to caress my face.
     "You scared the shit out of me, you know that." I say looking up at her feeling embarrassed because I'm crying like a baby. "Never do that shit again. Ever." She nods and Dr. Pierce walks in.
     "Oh wow, you're awake. That was fast, usually patients take another 3 or 4 hours." She says.
     "She's strong." I say.
     "She definitely is. Hailey this accident might have just saved your live. You had an aortic aneurysm. Which is a bulge in the aorta, the large artery that carries blood from the heart through the chest and torso. Aortic aneurysms can rupture, which is what yours did. The force of blood pumping can split the layers of the artery wall, allowing blood to leak in between them. If it would have ruptured at home, you may not have made it here in time and would have likely died."
     "Holy fuck!" Pope says shocked.
     "You also cut the back of your head on something. Quite possibly your board. It was deep enough for stitches. You only needed 3 though." She pauses and looks at all of us. "I would like to talk to Hailey privately for a moment. Could you all please step outside?" We nod. I kiss Hailey's hand and wait outside with the rest of them.

Hailey's pov:
     I feel super exhausted, but I don't feel any pain. Probably from the medication they gave me.
     "Hailey we asked all of your friends some questions. They said you didn't know your father. We have DNA kits here and can give you answers if you would like to find him. You can do the kit here and we will send the results to your house. Even if you don't want to know him I would like to notify him about what happened." Dr. Pierce says. I thought about it for a moment and thought about my conversation with everyone.
     "I'll do it." I say. She nods.
     "We are going to keep you here for another 72 hours. You can use the kit when you get ready to leave. You will find the results in your mailbox in a week. Sound good?"
"Yep." She walked out of the room and the Pogues came back in.
"What did she want?" John B asks as JJ grabs my hand once again.
     "She wanted to know if I wanted to do a DNA kit to find my dad. I took her up on the offer." I paused for a second to breathe. "I'm going to use the kit right before I leave post-op. She said the results will come in the mail in a week after that."
"Damn. In a week you'll find out." Pope says. I just nod. JJ holds my hand tighter making me look at him. He wipes his eyes with his free hand and smiles at me. I smile back. I truly love this man.

Sarah's pov:
     I am truly happy for Hailey, I really am. Although I'm beginning to think it's no longer such a good idea. I just have a gut feeling that something is going to happen. It might just be my nerves of the idea that she might leave us for him.
     We all decide to give JJ and Hailey some alone time. Those two are crazy about each other. Quite possibly more than me and John B.
     We all walk back to the waiting room. After about 30 minutes of talking amongst ourselves JJ comes into view.
     "Visiting hours are over. We can all say goodbye to her." He starts to walk back and we follow. We walk in and see Hailey trying to reason with a nurse.
     "Please, can't at least one if them stay?" She pleads.
     "I'm sorry there's nothing I can do. It's the hospital's R and R." The nurse exits and flashes a smile at us.
     "Well shit." Hailey says looking defeated.
     "We'll stay here and wait in the waiting room all night. We can just sleep in the chairs." JJ says.
     "No. You all go home and get some sleep for me, because obviously I'm not going to be getting much. It's a really good hospital why can't they make comfy beds?" We laugh at that.
     "Fine. It's going to suck not having you next to me." JJ says in a loving tone. Hailey nods.
     "Well we need to get going." Pope says.
     "We'll see you tomorrow Hails." Kie says.
     "Goodnight H." I say beginning to walk out behind Kie and Pope. I hear John B say goodbye. I turn around to see JJ kiss Hailey and walk out of her room.
     We get home to the château and I feel exhausted even though it's only 8:30. I haven't cried this much in like a year.
     "I'm fucking exhausted so I'm going to bed. If you all aren't coming with me then be quiet." I say walking off.
     "Same if you boys wake me up, I will drown you." Kiara says and we all stop. I stop walking and turn around to the stunned face of Kiara. JJ looks like a kicked puppy. John B and Pope look at her in disappointment. I can tell she's disappointed in herself too.
     "Shit. I didn't mean to. I'm sorry J-" She was cut off by a very angry JJ.
     "Way too fucking soon Kie. Next time you get into any type of accident or fight, I won't rush to save your ass!" He yells and walks off to his and Hailey's room. Slamming the door as he enters. She starts to tear up but before I could say anything she runs to the bathroom and locks herself in it. Pope walks over to the door to console her through it. I look at John B then walk off to my room.

John B's pov:
     I'm woken up to someone running out of the house. I jump up and Sarah does to. It's 11:50. She puts on my t-shirt and runs outside of our room. JJ runs after whoever it is. Most likely Hailey, even though she shouldn't be running yet. JJ and Kie haven't talked to each other ever since the fight they had a week ago.
     Hailey has done super well after her surgery.  The only things that are different is that she has a new scar, she can't do much cardio yet, and every time she looks at a surf board she winces. I understand why. She told us all about what she saw from when she had the accident to when she woke up. It sounds fucking terrifying.
     Today is the day she gets her DNA test results so she can find her father. Hailey and I have gotten closer over these past couple weeks. She's beginning to feel like a little sister to me. She jogs back in the house out of breath. JJ comes up behind her and she leans back on him trying to breathe the best she can. Kiara and Pope come out of their room they stay at sometimes (Big John's old study).
     "What is all the noise about?" Pope asks groggily. Hailey holds up an envelope and smiles still catching her breath. JJ sits her on the couch, still having her lean against him. She starts to breathe normally and stands up.
     "Okay." She takes a deep breath. "It's time. I know its going to be someone I don't know, but... damn this is stressful!"
     "You know you don't have to look at it if you don't want to." Sarah says.
     "I know but I'm going to." She opens the envelope and pulls out a paper. She takes another deep breath and opens it.
     "My mom's name and..." She stops. All of us look at her as she tears up her face looking shocked.
     "Woah what's wrong?" Kie asks worried. Hailey looks at me and moves her hand to cover her mouth. She drops the paper and runs to her room and locks the door.
     "Hailey!" JJ yells running after her. "Open the door please baby!" JJ says desperately. Why did she look at me after she read the paper? I look at Sarah and she has a confused look on her face. Kie goes to pick up the paper. She looks at us for approval. I know we shouldn't have let her read it but we wanted to know.
     Kie read the paper and gasped. She teared up and looked at me too. Sarah and Pope stood up and looked at the paper.
     "Oh shit!" Pope yelled. Which made JJ look over at us. He walked over to us and stood beside me. They all looked at me and JJ.
     "Why does everyone keep looking at me?" I ask. Kie hands me the paper. JJ and I read it. My mouth falls open. It read John Routledge.
