"ELLA, WAKE UP!"
A voice gently called out, one the girl didn't recognize at first. Even with the frantic urge behind this persons tone though, their words were spoken softly, soothing Ella in her supposed slumber.
"Come on, wake up!"
It spoke again, only this time, Ella felt her body being shook slightly afterwards. Due to that small action, her eyelids slowly began to open, later to be met with the thick darkness that coated the room before her. However, a figure did stand out, that being the one who held her so close.
Her mind was still radiant of her dream, before. A life triggered by the darkness. Memories she would have much rather preferred to forget.
While Ella's eyes began to adjust to her surroundings more, this person started to look more familiar. Their signature hats' outline stuck out more than anything. Only, she didn't understand what he was doing so close, or cradling her body, like it would be snatched away from his grasp. It was comforting at first, being held so tenderly. Still, when his identity was revealed, things like uneasiness replaced this relaxation.
"Carl?" Ella asked, her voice cracking slightly from the way fatigue overtook her vocal cords.
Carl, letting out a sigh of relief when her eyes shot open, ignored her question. Instead, his arms tightened their hold around her, pulling her body close against his. It took her a moment, but when Ella realized he was hugging her, her eyes widened in shock, but also confusion. It was rare for the two teens to share such an embrace, besides when he chose to embrace their lips, and Carl was overtook with his emotion. In a strange way, this was similar, as anyone could tell the boy was distressed, just by his facial expressions and the previous tone he used.
Tensing while the skin against skin contact continued, Ella froze, unsure of how to react next. It was, again, like the hug they shared days ago. Along with that, it held a similar feeling to the time when the two made up after their old argument, which could've occurred weeks ago by now, and how his arm had slipped over her shoulder with the same comforting intent. Only this time, the girl realized this hug wasn't for her, but him instead.
