Sapphire woke up really early. She decided to go to the observation deck for a while. Basically a room with a bunch of windows. Pearel was there.
"Surprised to see you here, Pearel." Sapphire started.
"Don't speak." Pearel said without looking away from the stars.
"Oh... Okay..." A sad tone sank in her voice. She looked out at the stars.
"Look it's not you. Rose is just so preoccupied by Ruby that I've hardly got to spend any time with her. Then whenever she is out and about she's busy looking for a new planet that can home us. I'm supposed to be her bodyguard but there is no use for me while we are on this ship... I just feel so left out and useless."
"I'm sorry. I know how you feel. Right now I have no purpose and I can't see the one person I want to see. But, hey, things might be rough but we just have to hold on and have hope for the better days."
Pearel sighed. "I guess you're right... I just miss Rose so much. I bet you miss Ruby too, right?"
"Of course I do..." Tears welled in her eyes.
"Do you..." Pearel's voice broke. "Do you love Ruby?"
Sapphires breath caught in her throat. "Do you love Rose?" She looked at Pearel and saw the huge blush on her face. "You do!"
"I-- I-- No, I am her bodyguard! I can't--"
"It's okay. Ruby is my bodyguard and she loves me..."
"She loves you?" Pearel looked at Sapphire.
"That was the last thing she said to me..." Her voice broke and tears started falling.
"Oh, Sapphire... I'm so sorry. She'll make it. She'll be okay." Pearel tried to comfort her.
"But how do you know? She might not be okay and I can't live without her..." Sapphire couldn't believe what she just said.
"I... I don't know what to say..." She looked down.
"I'm going back to my room. I wish you the best, Pearel." Sapphire said quickly and practically ran out. On her way back she saw Perry's room. He looked distraught but she was too upset to stop and help. She got to her room and laid face down crying. A few minutes later she wiped the tears away. She got up and took some deep breaths trying to calm down before she got to see Ruby.
Rose knocked on the door and came in. "Are you ready to go, Sapphire?"
"Yes." She said softly.
They walked in silence through the halls. When they got to the medical ward Rose told the guards to let her in. She looked into the rooms nearby and saw some weird looking creatures and a man in a bounty hunter outfit. Ruby's room was blocked off by three of the soldiers they had rescued. One smiled at Sapphire as they entered the room. Sapphire nearly cried as she saw Ruby laying there with cords and IV's running from her. She was in a coma. She rushed over and grabbed her hand. She was cold to touch. Tears fell softly onto Ruby's hand. She tried to look into the future but couldn't. There were too many possibilities. Rose left to give her some space.
"Ruby... I don't know if you can hear me but I wanted to say... That... I love you too..." The heart monitor beeped loudly as Ruby's heart rate increased. The monitor started going wild as doctors rushed in. Rose pulled Sapphire out. She heard the monitor go dead as they left. She fell to the floor. Was this the end?
Short, I know. Sorry to leave off on a cliff hanger but that's what I'm best at. Hope you continue reading to find out what happens. Love you guys!
