❄️
I drift above the crowds and watch as the swarm of dragons slowly escape into the sunrise, carrying their prey. I follow Hiccup from a distance and watch as a large man approaches him and firmly places his hand onto Hiccup's shoulder. I float down and walk towards them.
"What did you do?" The man's voice is loud and demanding. Hiccup turns around to face him. He fidgets and looks to the ground before looking up at the man and responding.
"I didn't do anything- I mean I was actually really close that time and-" The man steps closer to him and grabs his arm, pulling him along.
"You were supposed to stay at the workshop. You were supposed to help with tools. But instead, you had to do the exact thing you weren't supposed to." He stops and turns to face Hiccup.
"I was really close! It was right there and then-"
"You led the dragons straight to where we had flocks hidden, and now we have only half of the sheep left! We have a few months until winter and now we will have hardly enough food or warm clothes!" Hiccup's shoulders slump.
"Sorry, it's just-"
"It's just that you need to listen. Gobber will have work for you, when you're done go back home and stay there." He turns and walks away from Hiccup, the group of people nearby parts for him to walk through. I turn and look back at Hiccup, he's upset. He nervously glances at the crowd, making eye contact with the blonde teen before rushing back to the workshop.
I fly and follow him, slipping through the door behind him. Hiccup sits down and picks up a dagger from a pile of weapons. His face is full of rage, he throws the dagger forcefully at the wall. It bounces off, sticking into the soil on the ground. He pushes his hair back away from his face and stands. I walk over to the window and sit down on the wide ledge.
I watch Hiccup, he begins to sort tools and weapons. I'm curious about him, about this whole island. Why are there dragons here? I thought they were extinct.
Hiccup looks up as the other man, I think his name was Gobber, walks in. Hiccup talks without looking up from his work.
"Oh great, are you going to guilt trip me too? Sounds great, better get to it, wouldn't want me to get impatient." The man laughs and Hiccup glances up at him.
"You're father already told me what he told you. It seems like you've already sharpened all the blades so once you finish whatever you're doing there you can head home." Hiccup nods.
"Thanks." He continues to sort tools.
"So, besides abandoning post and finding the sheep, what'd you do this time?" Gobber leans on a pillar and changes his prosthetic hand.
"I was actually really close to killing a dragon this time! There was a Gronckle and it was really close to me. I was cornered but then- then...." Hiccup cocks his head, confused. "Then somebody threw a rock at its head, was it a rock? It kinda looked like snow..?"
