Chapter 11

I ran over to Kai and yelled at someone to call an ambulance.

Kai's face was bruised from hitting the staircase and she had a gash on her head that was bleeding pretty badly. I took off my sweater and placed it under her head, not wanting to move her just in case. 5 minutes later I heard the ambulance pull up to the house and the paramedics ran over and carefully lifted her on the gurney. I briefly explained to the paramedic what happened before they wheeled her to the hospital with all of us driving behind them.

We waited for what felt like eternity before a doctor came out of her room.

"How is she?" I asked him.

"You guys can come in. She's awake right now, and I would like to talk to all of you" he explained opening the door for us to walk in.

Kai was sitting on the bed with a bruised face and a bandage over the gash on her forehead. She had multiple tubes sticking out of her hands and was attached to a heart monitor. I took a seat beside her bed and held her hand that wasn't wired up. I looked at her but she avoided me and looked straight ahead.

"We ran some tests Kai, and things don't look so good" the doctor started looking at each of us.

I swallowed the lump in my throat not knowing what to say.

"How's your eating?" He asked her.

"Fine, perfectly fine" she said immediately.

"Unfortunately that's not what the tests show us. Your electrolytes are quite low, your heart rate is low and your organs are slowly shutting down. You have an eating disorder Kai. We can admit you to a program as soon as we get you medically stable here" he finished off.

I sat there taking in the news, and looked at Kai. She sat there biting her bottom lip like she did she was close to a melt down.

'"I have no idea what you're talking about. I'm perfectly fine and healthy. I just passed out off the stairs because I've been stressing out and I haven't been sleeping well" she lied.

I snapped my eyes to her and stared at her in shock. Does she not know how sick she really is?

"Babe, you don't eat ever, you exercise and you are so sick" I told her truthfully.

She glared at me and gave me the 'shut up' look, but didn't say anything.

"Unfortunately, we can't let you leave until you're medically stable. It's hospital rules considering your low heart rate and your electrolytes. You have a high risk of getting a heart attack" the doctor said.

I swallowed the dry lump in my throat and looked desperately at Kai.

She shook her head and glared at the doctor.

"I want to leave as soon as I can. I don't have a problem and I dont want to be part of some eating disorder shiz. Just give me what I need so I can go home" she spat through her teeth.

The doctor sighed but reluctantly nodded. He scribbled on a piece of paper and checked her heart monitor before leaving.

I looked behind me and noticed the guys had the same worried expression on their face. They didn't want to say anything and getting Kai to get all fired up, that was the last thing we wanted.

We sat in silence and watched re runs of Criminal Minds before a nurse came in around 6pm.

"Since you're under our care, you're required to eat 3 meals, and 3 snacks a day. Meals must be finished within 30 minutes and snacks under 15. If you don't finish your food, you have to drink 2 Ensures, depending on what's unfinished. And if you don't finish that, then we have to go through extreme consequences" the nurse told Kai.
