Mew

I am nervous.

I don't know why.

Gulf is only coming to make cookies.

I'm constantly moving around, but having no idea what I'm actually trying to do.

My sister even thought I was going crazy.

"Will you calm down? I have all the ingredients ready." She says as she places a large bowl of chocolate chips on the island.

I stop at the rounded marble edge and look at the ingredients.

"I think you might have prepared too much." I say, seeing the amount of stuff on the island.

"Well, we can experiment on some of them." My sister responds.

I turn and look at her weird. "How exactly?"

"Like try shapes or add more or less chocolate chips. Depends on what you want to try." She says.

"Do we just shape them with our hands?" I ask.

"What else would you use?" She asks back.

"I thought you would have cookie cutters." I reply.

"Well, that's gonna take away the fun, isn't it?" My sister says as she organizes the materials so it looks nice and neat on the island.

I turn away from the island and look up at the clock.

8 more minutes.

I sigh and walk over to the living room to grab my phone.

As soon as I pick it up, I see a message from Gulf.

"I'm right outside your door." The text read.

Putting the phone in my pocket, I walk over to my door and open it.

"Hi." Gulf greets with a smile.

"What is that?" I ask, pointing at the large basket in his hands.

"A little gift." Gulf says as he holds it out to me.

"Oh, you didn't have to." I reply, taking the basket from his hands as I move out of the way for him to step in.

"It's no problem." Gulf says as he takes off his shoes and walks into the house, closing the door behind him since my hands are full.

"How did you even text me when you were holding the basket?" I ask, placing the basket down on the dining table.

When I turn around, I see Gulf standing behind me. "I texted you and then ran to your door with the basket."

"You could have called me and I would have gotten out to get the basket." I say.

"Don't worry about it. The basket isn't even that heavy." Gulf replies.

I show Gulf to the island where the ingredients are and let him look around while I ask Eli, my housekeeper, to unpack the basket carefully.

"So your sister, mother, and you all live here?" Gulf asks as he walks to the living room.

"There's a couple housekeepers, but they don't  show up in the house often." I reply, following him around.

He suddenly stops and turns around to face me. "What about your dad?"

Before I can answer, his eyes widen. "Oh, I'm sorry. I'm probably asking too many questions." He says quickly, covering his mouth afterward.

I laugh and reply, "It's alright. You can ask whatever. For the question about my dad, he's usually busy with work in China so we don't see him often unless for special holidays and events."

Gulf nods and looks behind me, his eyebrows creasing in confusion.

I turn around to see what he was looking at.

In a room behind me is the vase of red flowers I've had for a few years.

"Are those real?" Gulf asks, pointing at the roses.

I shake my head and reply, "No. But I just like having them there. It's a way for me to keep my memories close to me."

"Fake roses help keep your memories close?" Gulf asks, obviously confused.

"I don't know, either. Whenever I walk in that room, those flowers remind me of a part of my life." I say, staring deeply at the red roses.

"You said you've had them for a few years already. Why not change the flowers? They might be fake, but a little bit of change isn't gonna hurt." Gulf says, appearing beside me.

I shrug and admire the beauty of the flowers.

"I like them red."

Maybe it's the color.

Or the meaning.

Or the way it entrances me.

But I just like... red.

"Well, I think pink would be nice." Gulf says, pulling me away from my thoughts.

I blink multiple times before turning to look at Gulf.

"How about we go make those cookies?" I say, smiling.

Gulf nods and follows me back to the kitchen.

***

Here comes the start of the meaning behind the title.

There's a few meanings so good luck catching them.

Don't worry, shouldn't be too hard.

Feeling like I should do a Quote Of The Chapter because it's kinda depressing with me writing little notes.

I'll think about it.

Please have a great week, everyone.

I will be busy with summer assignments and my Wattys story so I probably won't have time for extras.

We'll see, though.

Ok, bai now.

Love you!
