Burgundy's POV:
I was vomiting blood. That's never a good sign. I didn't and couldn't think. It's an inexplicable feeling, but the pain was numbing to my body. I heard a door slam and struggled to open my swollen eyelids. Through the slits, I saw my saviour.Adam's POV:
As soon as I struck open the door and saw Burgundy in the state she was in, I went feral. I tore her captors apart. After I killed them, I drank their life-fluid. Burgundy was watching me from her spot on the floor. I felt ashamed.
"Adam" she whispered. I crawled over towards her and stroked the side of her face gently. "Burgundy. What have you gotten yourself into?" She smiled painfully, a tear leaking out of one of her eyes. "Deep, deep shit." She lifted her arms towards me and closed her eyes. "Please." she whispered. I placed my arms gently around her and lifted her up. I kicked the door open and started to run back to our home with my love in my arms.
(A/N: for those of you that are curious, yes, Adam is a vampire.)
~~~
The sound of her coughing startled me awake. Burgundy had gotten chilly and tired, so we had taken a rest. She was slowly getting worse, so I picked her up and continued on our journey.
She was cuddled into my chest when it happened. Something swiped at my legs and I went down. As soon as it registered with me that I was falling, I twisted my body around so that I wouldn't crush Burgundy. On the ground, I glanced up, staring into the furry face of Burgundy's mate.
Parker's POV:
I growled at him, the taker of my mate. A blood-sucking vampire. Filth. I lifted my lip, showing my off-white teeth. I watched as he did the same. I bristled and prepared to attack when my sensitive ears picked up a muffled word. "Wait." my pale, injured mate said. We both looked at her curiously. "I have something to say." She groaned as she pulled herself out of Adam's arms. She eyed me.
"Parker. We never made an out loud decision of acceptance." She was referring to the speech of a mate, usually made soon after the mates found each other. "I accept you, mate." was the norm, and bonded the mates to each other, forever, until death.
But, if a mate rejected the other, the signs of the mates went away, as well as the chemistry. I realized what she was up to.
She smiled at me. "Mate, I reject you."
My wolf stopped forcing me to run after Burgundy, settling in my chest.
Burgundy regained her color and sighed in relief. Adam kept glancing between Burgundy and I, but then smiled at the wellness of Burgundy. I nodded at both Adam and Burgundy with my wolf head, and trotted away.
Adam's POV:
I blinked at Burgundy. "That was weirdly easy." She smiled at me. "That's why I have the brains, babe." I winked at her. "You got the beauty too." She grinned. "Only on the outside." I laughed at her and tackled her in a huge hug. "Thank God you're okay." I said, kissing the top of her head. "We still have to talk about a few things." Burgundy said, muffled underneath my shirt.
I sat up and looked at her with a raised eyebrow.
She gave me a sheepish grin. "I kill your species."
