What are ways to calm down when you are crying?
First off, I would start with getting yourself a cup of water.By having small sips of water, you are getting a break from hyperventilating, you are getting a drink to keep you focused on something else at hand and if you have a little sibling or child you can tell them that their just filling up so they aren't dry of tears in the future.
Once you are calmer or if that didn't help, focus on your breathing more.
I usually do this:8 seconds breathing in.
7 seconds holding your breath.
4 seconds breathing out.
And repeat till you begin to feel calmer.
This helps the body get into a calmer state where the person can also stay focused on a different task then the reason their upset.
Let yourself go- It's always good to have a big cry once and a while, there isn't any shame with anyone crying for any reason and sometimes it's better to get it all out then hold it in.
If you have a teddy or something you could hold onto, hold onto that and snuggle up in comfy clothes- make sure to that you are comfortable. And make sure to still keep a cup of water there with you just incase!
