The next day wasn't anything special. Sure it was my first day with a boyfriend, but nothing that different happened. At least, not to me. I wasn't able to say the same about my brother. Although we were still fighting, my heart dropped when he walked into the trailer, a black eye, bruises, and a split lip adorning his face. "What the hell happened?" I asked, concern lining my voice more than I wanted it to.

"The Ghoulies jumped me while I was leaving." Jug mumbled, heading to the kitchen and taking out the first aid kit.

"Stop, I got it." I said, grabbing it and gesturing for him to take a seat on the couch. Reluctantly, he did as I opened the case and sat down next to him. I took out the rubbing alcohol, pouring it onto a cotton pad and carefully cleaned his split lip. He winced as I did so, saying nothing. So I spoke. "Jug, I know you don't like the Serpents, or me right now for that matter," He opened his mouth to say something, but I continued, "But I think it would be better if you joined us. You don't have to become a serpent officially or anything, but at least sit with us at lunch, okay?"

I let my words linger in the air around his silence while I got ice and a ziplock bag from the kitchen. I handed it to him for his bruises and his swelling eye, giving him a comforting smile as I walked away. I headed out the door, pulling my jacket closer around me to keep the chilly night air away. I walked down a few trailers, stopping and knocking on Sweet Pea's door.

He opened it, bringing a smile to my face. "Hey Y/n. What's up?"

I walked in and saw his face fall when he saw the concern in my eyes. Toni and Fangs, who had been playing mercy on the couch, stopped their game when they saw me, as well.

"Did something happen?" Fangs asked, standing up from the couch.

"The Ghoulies got to my brother while he was leaving."

"Shit." Toni cursed under her breath, sliding a hand into the pocket of her Serpent jacket.

"He's alright, just a split lip, black eye, and some bruises. He'll be fine."

Wordlessly, Sweet Pea pulled me into his arms. And even though the atmosphere in the room was far from the subject, my head went back to the night before.

As if he was able to read my mind, Fangs gently elbowed Toni, who said, "Well we better get going. Let me know if your brother gets any worse, okay?"

We made eye contact, an unspoken understanding between us. I nodded as they headed out, leaving Sweet Pea and I alone in the quiet trailer.

"So you and Jughead are on speaking terms now?" Sweet Pea asked, taking me to sit down next to him on the sofa.

"Yes. No. It's complicated." He laced his fingers between mine, instantly making my heart beat speed up even though I was calm at this point.

"He'll be fine, you know."

"Yeah, I know." But if this could happen to my brother, one of the toughest people I know, could it happen to me too? Would I come out worse than him? Sure I beat up Reggie a few days ago, but I was in control the whole time. But if they took me by surprise-

I knew in my gut what the answer to that question would be, but I didn't once let myself think it.

We sat in silence, hand in hand, the crickets chirping outside. I leaned my head against his chest, tears soundlessly rolling down my cheeks. Sweet Pea stroked my hair, the night air hanging around us. Soon enough, the rhythm of his breathing lulled me to sleep.

Sweet Pea's POV:

Y/n's eyes closed, her head resting peacefully on my chest. The sight of her made me smile, but what should I do now? I could take her back to her trailer, or I could have her stay here. As happy as that would make me, though, I didn't think it was the best idea.

I slowly lifted her up bridal style, and stood up, being as quiet as possible. I walked outside, stopping every time she moved, hoping I didn't wake her up. I carried her back to her trailer, knocking quietly on the door. Jughead answered, holding an ice pack to his cheek. I tried to ignore how bad he looked. I kind of felt bad for him.

"She fell asleep." I whispered. "I brought her here."

Jughead nodded, placing the bag of ice down on the arm of their couch before picking her up. And for those few seconds, it was like nothing had happened. "Thank you." He said, gently closing the door behind him, the light from the trailer disappearing. I walked back to my trailer, sitting right back down on the couch. Her scent lingered around me, bringing another soft smile to my face. I headed to my bed, laying down as the events of the night before filled my head. That night, I dreamed about Y/n as I slept.
