Chapter 12: The Woman

Asui's POV:

"Ow, what the heck was that?" I turn to face Tokoyami, who has his hand on his bird head.
"What's wrong?"
"Something hit my head. I think it was that." He points to a rock on the ground. I looked around us to see no one near. Strange.
"Tokoyami-Kun, don't you think it's weird that there's no one around?"
"Kinda."
"The houses look old and rusty too."

I stared at the houses a few yards behind us. They seem like nobody has lived there for years.
"Uhh, Tsuyu? Who's that?"
"Ribbit?" I turned back to Tokoyami and he was looking at a woman. The woman was wearing a brown oversized coat that swallowed her body, black leggings, brown boots, and a black hat. The hat tilted down to cover her face except her lips, which were a scarlet red color.
"Who are you?" The woman stayed silent.
"Answer us, who are you?" She stayed silent again. This started to infuriate Tokoyami and me.
"I said answer us!"

"And if I don't?" Her voice is cold and monotone like. Tokoyami and I froze in place at the sound of her voice.
"What's wrong? You two seem like you've just seen a ghost." It was hard to see it, but the woman smirked slightly.
"W-who are you? Why are you here?"
"Let's just say, I'm doing my job. And for my identity, it's something for you two to know later." There was silence until the woman started walking towards us.

"I need to take one of you somewhere, but I guess I should bring both of you. I have a feeling the other would snitch on me." I couldn't move. I want to move, but my body isn't letting me. It's like our bodies are paralyzed. In a blink of an eye, a light brown cat appeared where the woman was standing.
"What the, what happened to the wom-" Before Tokoyami could finish his sentence, the cat attacked him. The cat scratched through his jacket, leaving holes that exposed his pale skin.
"Tokoyami-Kun! Are you okay??"
"I'm fine, we should probably head ba-" The cat attacked him again, this time the cat scratched his left arm. Through his jacket and onto his skin. I could see blood starting to come out.

"Ah! What the hell?!" I see Tokoyami holding his mild bloody arm. I quickly hold onto his shoulder.
"Come on, let's get you to Recovery Girl quickly!" We started walking just a few steps before we heard the cold, monotone voice again.
"Leaving already? But we just met." I froze in place. It was the woman again. I turned around to see no one except for the cat. *Where is she?*
"You heard that too?"

"Ribbit." I nod in response. Suddenly the cat slowly became the woman, leaving Tokoyami and me standing in shock.
"Let me give you two some information about my quirk. My quirk is therianthropy. I am able to turn into any animal I want for a certain amount of time."
"Isn't that a myth?"
She shrugs.

"So were you that cat who scratched him??"
"Oh you kids catch on quickly."
"What do you want from us?" The woman started walking towards us
"Well, I was hired recently by some other people to come and get you." The woman pointed to Tokoyami. I started panicking.
"What do you want fro-"
"Enough questions." She transformed into a bird and started coming at us.
"Duck!" We ducked before she could get us.
"Tokoyami-Kun, can you run?"
"Yeah?"

"Follow me and try to dodge her. We need to run and find h-" I got cut off by Tokoyami screaming in pain.
"Tokoyami-Kun!" I look over to him to see the woman, still in bird form, clawing onto his back. I tried to grab her, but she dodged and bit me. I yelped in pain, still trying to get her off of Tokoyami.
"Dark Shadow!" On command, Dark Shadow came out of Tokoyami's back and pushed the woman off.
"Let's go!" He grabbed my hand and we started running.

"Not so fast." The woman flew in front of us and transformed back into a human. The second she did, she kicked me in the chest, making me fall. She then took out a brown bag and tried to put Tokoyami's head in it. He dodged and the woman kicked his legs. I used my tongue to reach him, but when it wrapped around him, the woman stomped on it making me scream in pain. She started walking towards me with the bag still in her hands. Dark Shadow then pushed the woman away from me and started attacking her. I got up and went over to Tokoyami.

"Do you think you can have Dark Shadow hold her off for a bit? I have a plan, ribbit." He nodded and I told him my plan quickly. When I finished, he seemed unsure.

"Are you sure this is a good idea? There is a high possibility that she will keep dodging Dark Shadow's attacks and go after us instead."
"I'm sure this will work, we just need to be visible to some of the citizens and be loud."
"But what if when Dark Shadow is in control? I still can't control him fully."
"The sun's out right?" He gave an embarrassed look and then sighed.

"You're right." I gave him a determined smile.
"We'll defeat her! Together, the three of us! We've defeated our classmates and teachers, so I'm sure we'll defeat her!" Little did I know, life doesn't let things go the way you want it to.
