One More Night

The sweat dripped down her forehead, she'd been jogging for an hour, after she'd already been to the gym. She was exhausted but she was trying to shake the thoughts out of her head. He'd been gone for 6 weeks, out of his 6 month sabbatical. To say everyone was surprised was an understatement, especially for Erin.

Jay had come in one day and told Voight he was taking 6 months off to let off some steam, he was catching up with Mouse along the way and whatever else he needed to do to clear his head. After everything that had happened, Jays 'wife' turning up, his ptsd, Erins so called father coming into the picture, everything with Bunny, it all took a toll on both of them, Erin thought they'd get through it together and bounce off each other like usual but Jay couldn't do that anymore, they just weren't good for each other. It hurt for her to hear that but she agreed, no matter what it was always something that got between them.

They agreed not to talk while he was gone and if when he got back something was still there maybe they'd start things up again. Fresh, a new beginning. Jay told her not to hang on though, and if she found someone else he'd respect that, she deserved happiness. So did he.

But of course they spent one more night together before he left, because he wanted it to end in a good way. This time was different though, Erin felt empty afterwards, usually after a night with him they'd snuggle into each other's arms and fall asleep together, but he left with nothing other then a goodbye. She wasn't sad, she wasn't angry, just empty. She was going to miss him.

Little did she know how much that one night would change things for both of them, she just didn't know if it was a good or a bad thing.

How two bright red lines made ones life turn upside down will never make sense in her head. She kept trying to make herself busy but as soon as she had a minute to think, that's all she could think about.

She walked back home, showered, then got dressed for work. Forcing herself to make a quick detour by med on the way, she needed to make sure that it was actually real. She had already put it off for a week, it was time to face it head on. Like Jay always told her.

She walked into the ED, up to the front desk and asked for Natalie. The lady paged her and told Erin to wait, after 10 or so minutes, Natalie came out with a smile. She walked up to Erin and gave her a hug, she knew everything that had happened between her and Jay and she felt sorry for her.

"Hey Erin, it's good to see you. How are you?" Nat asked as she squeezed Erins shoulder.

"Hey Nat, yeah it's good to see you to. I miss you guys, it's been a minute." Erin paused, "Uh, I'm not sure how I am right now to be honest."

Natalie raised her eyebrow, confused "Okay, come on we will go to a room and talk in there."

Erin nodded and followed Natalie into a treatment room, she sat up on the bed as Natalie stood in front of her, still giving her a saddened look.

"Nat, you don't have to feel sorry for me. It was a good thing, even if it doesn't feel like it now."

"I know, it's just you's we're so good together."

"So were you and Will," she paused "These Halstead brothers huh." Erin chuckled, getting a grin off Natalie.

"So I guess something is up? Seeings though you actually checked in? Not just up for a chat?" Natalie asked, looking down at Erins records.

"Yeah, this has to stay between us. At least until I know what to do, if it's something."

"Erin, of course it will. Not just because it has to either. Now please, tell me what's going on?"
