My life has become a mess.
I couldn't even hold a meeting for more than an hour. Not to mention that the Russo's deal was about to be cancelled because they had stated that Emily, or whoever that woman was, was to work with them.
I tried to explain but they didn't want to change their minds but even me, I was failing to accomplish anything. I was no longer concentrating on my work even after three years.
It was like she was the only thing holding me together and when she left, I fell to the ground and shattered into pieces. Pieces that couldn't be fixed up.
Sighing I got up, closed my laptop and headed to see Kevin who has been like a psychiatrist ever since Em... That woman left.
I didn't want everyone to know that I was broken again, so he offered me his assistance to avoid the risk of me visiting the hospital the second time because of a woman.
Of course, there are people who couldn't be fooled. For instance my father. But whenever he brought up the subject I always dismissed it or changed the subject.
"Well, well, well. Nice timing." He muttered as I entered his office.
"What? Do we have something to do?" To be honest, I wasn't in the mood to talk about business.
"Yes. We have to meet up with a new partner from Italy."
"Don't tell me." I groaned and sat down.
"Yes, so get your ass up and let's go." Reluctantly, I followed him as we left the company to meet with this supposed new partner.
Even after all these years that have passed, I missed her. She was on my mind all day and in my dreams all night. And that annoyed me even more.
Some days I wondered what happened to her after she left the house. Nobody knew where she was, not even her family. It was like she disappeared from earth.
I couldn't help but worry about her. No matter how hard I tried. I even hired a private investigator to search for her to no avail.
Maybe she didn't want to be found. So why was I still wasting my time?
When we arrived we were immediately rushed into the building to attend the meeting.
"Promise me you won't mess this up again!" Kevin begged as we stood in the waiting room.
"I won't." I don't know if I would keep the promise, but I assured him before he could give me more of his lessons.
Then I saw her and my heart went crazy.
I was starting to tell myself that I was hallucinating but when she turned, met my gaze and froze, I was very sure it was her.
"Are you listening to what I am...." He stopped in mid sentence, followed my gaze and cursed.
Mr. Nicholas chose that moment to appear.
"Oh well, since you are all here, we shall start." We all looked at him confused.
"Oh I haven't even introduced you!" He smacked his head and continued, "Emma, these are going to be my partners Leon and Kevin. As to both of you, this is my new designer since the last one resigned a few days ago."
"From what I remember, you haven't given me the job yet!" She said in a small voice drawing my eyes to her small yet full lips.
"Well my dear, you have your job. Now let's go up and present your fascinating works that will convince these people to stay." He said and motioned us to follow him.
We all did but Kevin caught up with Nicholas hurriedly leaving me and Emma alone.
"I didn't know you worked here, " I commented and watched how she tensed by hearing my voice.
She had changed. Her hair seemed darker and shorter, and she had lost weight considerably. I wonder where she was, where she was living or what she was doing in all these years.
"As I have just said, a friend found a job and I came here thinking I was going in some kind of interview, but it seems he has other plans."
"Well, good luck on making us stay." She looked up at me and I almost gave in. Instead I increased my pace and joined the others in the elevator as she did the same seconds later.
We entered the small conference room, sat around the table as she stood in front of us ready to make the presentation.
It was exactly similar to when she was presenting three years ago. The difference is, back then I was proud of her but now, not anymore. I don't even know what I'm feeling towards her right now.
Throughout the whole presentation I noticed how she wrung her hands nervously and how she looked anywhere but my way. Like she was afraid of me discovering her secrets.
Then came the hard part.
To give our decision to Mr. Nicholas. I asked for a few minutes with Kevin before we gave it.
"What should we do?" I implored.
"That's the right question from the wrong person. I should be asking you that!" He groans and rolls his eyes.
I growl at him. "For heaven's sake Kevin, you are supposed to help me! Everything is messed up in my head right now and you know that!"
"I also have my limits. But if we really want to avoid going bankrupt, we should accept this because we are not sure if Russo's deal still stands." He smirks slightly and reluctantly as he knew he was right.
We went back to the table and I told him that we were accepting to be partners.
Emma looked shocked. So she was expecting me to decline? Well, she doesn't know me. I will make her see that her presence does nothing to me.
We shook hands with Nicholas and we headed out, neither of us speaking. As soon as the doors of the elevator opened, a small boy came running towards Emma shouting 'mommy'.
It was like I was slapped in the face.
She has a son?! Unintentionally, I felt my heart crush once more.
"I'm so sorry Emma, he was just crying saying he wanted to see and here we are." A woman who came with the kid said to her
"It's fine, I will take it from here," She said and they walked out of the building hurriedly without another backward glance.
I couldn't believe it.
