GREY’S POV
Sometimes, someone comes into your life so unexpected it takes your heart by surprise and changes your life forever.
Who would have thought there would come a day when a woman, a human at that, would knock me off my feet. Even as I sit here, amidst discussion of grave pack matters, my mind keeps drifting back to her. Her fiery chocolate brown eyes are engraved in the depths of my mind, her smile an anchor for my dissolving soul. Though I could do without her hot temper and smart mouth, the thought of any harm befalling her weakens me.
The urge to claim her is more excruciating than any torment I’d ever had the misfortune of enduring. Even so, I am forced to exercise restraint for she is yet to be ready. Her resistance to the mate bond will only serve to fuel the tension between us and add to her emotional unrest. So, I wait, in hopes that time will dissolve her hatred towards me and let blossom an organic and pure connection between us. I can only hope that someday she will come to love me past all that is dark that taints my soul.
As the council precedings draw to a close, the only thing on my mind is getting back to my mate to ensure that she is alright.
“I see her presence has already taken full effect.” Jasper says, coming up to me with Julian at his side.
“When do I get to meet this mystic creature, who has big bad Gracey by the balls?” Julian chimes in, a huge grin plastered on his dumb face.
“I don’t know what you two are going on about.” I dismiss their remarks.
“So, she isn’t the reason behind your lack of engagement in the council meeting today or your current desire to rush back to the house?” Julian prompts mockingly, his eyes filled with their usual mischief.
“You have nothing to be ashamed of brother. Every man falls at the mercy of his mate.” Jasper mutters before turning to leave.
Their attempts to rile me up are working but I don't dare let them see it. I hated that they were right.
“I am under no such spell. The mere sight of Jasmine may turn you into a love sick puppy but I am immune to the whims of some Goddess who sees it fit to disrupt the lives of the hopeless, as she desires.” I direct my words at a retreating Jasper, who wears on a knowing smirk on his face, unfazed by my subtle jab at his volition.
“Give it time, you will be eating out of the palm of her hand.” Julian pats my shoulder before following behind his brother.
Though I would never admit it to the two idiots that are my brothers or anyone else for that matter, my little mate is easily becoming my weakness. I want nothing but to drop my cold demeanour and allow myslef to be the loving and caring mate she deserves. Yet the fear of letting her see my weaknesses overrides that need.
When I return to our bedroom, I find her sleeping soundly. I quietly sit at the edge of the bed, watching her chest rise and fall, the sight calming me instantly.

As I awaken, I am welcomed by the sight of my mate siting at the edge of the bed. A loud yawn escapes me as I stretch out my arms, rubbbing my eyes of the reminiscent of sleep. His eyes meet mine, heavy with concern.
Was he watching me sleep?
“How are you feeling?” He inquires tenderly.
For a moment I find myself forgetting that he is the source of my pain until it all comes rushing back, the wounds still fresh.
