Kairis pov Rain. The sound of the raindrops hitting the hotel window awakened me, the usual sun light that peered through my room was absent leaving the room dark. It was the first rainy day of the summer In New Jersey. I was surprised it hadn't came sooner with how inconsistent the weather was here.
I threw my blanket off me, stretching out of bed. I dragged myself to window looking outside. I frowned seeing how gloomy the weather was, dark clouds and wet roads. The dull atmosphere brought down my mood tremendously, something I didn't need. I looked down at my wrists, my face going still. My eyes ran along the one running from the top of my wrist down to the middle of my forearm. I swallowed back the memories, tearing my eyes away from my arm.
I threw off my t-shirt not wanting my arms to be exposed any longer. I couldn't stand it. Instead I grabbed a black and white striped long sleeved shirt and paired it with denim shorts. Ruffling my hair, I grabbed my vanilla and coconut scented perfume. I inhaled the aroma, smiling to myself in the mirror. I only wore it when my father wasn't here. He didn't know about my sexuality, he assumed I was just feminine, and he made sure to let me know his disliking for it. He often told me my clothes looked 'girly', or that I needed to act more manly. I didn't let him show how much it
and opened my jewelry box that sat in the middle of my desk grabbing my bracelet that was engraved with a name. It was the last thing I had to remind me of her. Which was bitter sweet. I adjusted it on my wrist before heading out of my room back down the hallway. I wasn't looking forward to another boring day in the lobby.
Once I got to the lobby I saw my mother at the front desk on the computer. It was usual for her to be up this early so I didn't question it. I wrapped my arms around her neck from behind, kissing her cheek. She stopped typing, looking up at me with a warm smile.
"Good morning momma." I said leaning my head on her shoulder looking at what she was doing on the computer.
"Good morning Kai, I have a lot of emails that I need to send and catch up on the billing for the hotel so I'm going to be busy for the rest of the day. I want you to go out." She said making me perk up in surprise.
"Like where, town is like an hour away?" I said, coming out more like a question. She turned to look at me, slightly smiling. I gave her a questioning look, not catching on to what she was getting at.
"You can take the car." She said turning back towards the computer, the smile evident in her tone. I immediately stood up in surprise.
"Wait actually?" I said a bit too enthusiastic than I should've been. I didn't realize how hard I was smiling until she laughed lightly at me, raising her brow. I quickly tried to draw back my smile, biting my lower lip. I still managed to have my lips pulled upwards even after the attempt.
"Yes but it's between me and you, you're father doesn't have to know." She said typing away. I squealed, kissing her cheek momentarily. I walked to the drawer that was tucked away beside the front desk. I grabbed the car keys, not remembering last time I drove the car. Excited was an understatement. Especially since I'd be going in town.
"Do you need me to bring anything back?" I made sure to ask before I left. She nodded her head no, shoeing me off. I mumbled a small 'okay' before leaving the hotel.
Once I got outside I shivered feeling the cold air touch my skin. The light rain didn't hit my face, that was covered by my hair. I looked over across the parking lot to see the black car from yesterday wasn't there, which must've meant the handsome guy from last night left for awhile. Maybe that was a good thing, that way I wouldn't have to feel as though I'm going to faint whenever I come into any sort of contact with him. But I knew I'd have to face him sooner or later during the upcoming weeks.
I walked over to my moms rather large white car that was parked near the front of the hotel. I quickly opened the car door, shutting it behind me once I was inside. I put my seat belt on hearing the clicking sound. I turned in the radio, the first song quietly playing through the stereo. I sat silently for a moment taking in the music along with the rain hitting the windows. The atmosphere felt so dreary but calm. Like today wasn't made for worry, for the first time. A lot of us needed a break for once, maybe this was the day because it felt like it.
I pulled out into the road, seeing nothing but grey clouds stretched along the field that was surrounding me.

Once I started recognizing the shops from town, I smiled knowing where I wanted to go. The neon sign from a nearby convenient store shun onto my car, casting the inside of my car as well as the road a bright purple and yellow. I passed it, my eyes immediately flickering to the small cafe that was tucked away at the corner of the road that stopped at a dead end, forcing unfamiliar cars to turn around.
The parking lot was bare, the only thing being the small mini van which was owned by the old lady that ran the store. I opened the narrow door, the bell chiming above me. I immediately was greeted with the smell of freshly baked bread and coffee.
"Kairi is that you!" The cheery voice which I knew as the owner, Rosemary. Her smile was prominent as she walked over to me with her arms open. I didn't care for my clothes that would get dirty from her apron. Instead, I gladly hugged her back with a smile. She was a bit shorter than me as she looked up at me with the same gentle smile. She looked the same as when I first met her when I was five. When my father took our family out whenever he could, bringing us to this very cafe as I know it now.
"I missed you, how are you?" She asked waiting patiently for my answer. I could tell she was as delighted to see me and I was for her. I breathed out a chuckle.
"Well me and my mom are doing fine, we've been running the hotel all summer which is why we haven't visited." I said feeing a bit guilty. She nodded her head, listening with no once of judgement.
"Well tell your mom I miss her and she should visit, And how's your dad?" She asked making my face fall. I knew she meant no harm but the topic still was touchy.
"You know he's still different with what happened." I said looking down. I felt her rub my back comfortingly, bringing me into her arms.
"Your father is a good guy Kairi, he'll come to his senses eventually." She said with a sad smile in which I returned. She nodded her head before seeming to realize something. She rushed over behind the large glass counter filled with muffins, cookies and other desserts.
"Sit down I want you to try the new muffins I made!" She said cheerily as I found a spot to sit. I took a seat, looking around patiently. It looked the exact same as it did when I last came here which was probably last summer. Lately it's been feeling like time has been going by so fast and it was hard to keep up with, I hated it. Sometimes I wished time had a pause button.
Before Rosemary came back, the sound of the bells from the entrance chimed, startling me. I looked over, my heart immediately dropping.
