"Hello?"
"It's your father!"
"What is it? I already made it very clear that I don't want it."
"Lucas please hear me out for the sake of the com-"
"No. Now please leave me alone."
Lucas then hung up the phone and sighed as he looked outside his window. He watched the street lights begin to shut off and the apartments from across the street to turn off their lights. All but one of them had their lights off. He looked at the one apartment that had their lights on still. He watched a couple smile at each other and hug. He then saw them either their children and then they shut their lights out as well. Lucas looked off into the night sky and sighed. He looked at the stars and began to wish.
"Send me a sign that someone is out there. I know someone is going to be there for me. All I want in life is a family. So please do send me a sign of some sort."
He then turned off his lights and went to bed. He dreamt dreams of having a wife and children. The wife part however still lingered in his head when he woke up."Lucas? Are you paying attention?"
"Ah sorry Y/n I was just thinking."
She sighed and flicked him on the head lightly.
"Well don't think. Do."
He giggled at her actions and just smiled at her. Y/n looked at him with a confused look.
"Why are you smiling at me?" she asked him
"Say Y/n?"
"Yes Lucas?"
"Do you believe in soulmates?"
"I used to when I was in high school but now as an adult I don't think so. Why are you asking me this?"
"It's nothing really,I just wanted to know."
Y/n just sighed and continued her work as Lucas began packing up his stuff to leave for the day.
"Hey Y/n?"
"Yes Lucas?"
"Could I get your number?"
"I don't see why not. It's XXX-XXX-XXXX."
Lucas smiled as he typed in the number on his phone.
"Shouldn't you be packing up too? You already worked for 8 hours today."
"I will pack up in a second I just need to finalize something that's all."
As Y/n began to finish up her work she still felt Lucas's presence in the room.
"You know you can go home Lucas. I don't see why you're staying here?"
"I don't have any plans tonight. I was wondering if I could take you out to dinner as a way to say thanks."
Y/n sighed and looked at Lucas, who was beaming at her with the biggest smile.
"I don't mean to sound rude but why would you offer to go to dinner with me? We don't know each other that well and like i've stated I don't like hanging out with people."
Just as Y/n finished her sentence her stomach let out a gigantic grumbling noise.
"What was that again Y/n?" said Lucas
I eventually gave in to his persuasions and we ended up at a restaurant.
"Eat whatever you want and as much as you want. It's on me."
"We can split the bill or I will just pay for what I got to eat."
"Y/n if i'm being honest the bill isn't being payed by me, it's being covered for us by someone else. So please don't hesitate."
"What do you mean by someone else? Lucas wha-"
Before I could say anything else, Lucas placed his index finger onto my lips.
"I explained myself and that's all I am going to say. Now then why don't you start looking at what you want."
After we ordered and received our dinner,I felt as if I was being interrogated about my life by Lucas.
"So why do you seem to always deny YangYang's request to hangout with him outside. You didn't seem to hesitate that much when you took up my offer and YangYang was more persistent."
"YangYang and I actually went to high school together. He has always tried to get me to hangout with him but I always know it will lead me into trouble if I do."
"I see. Did you do any sports or anything in high school?"
"I did."
"Really like what?"
"I actually did dance outside of school but I was on the cheer team at school."
"You?! A cheerleader?!"
I thought about my time as a high school cheerleader and I began to laugh.Lucas POV
When Y/n began to laugh, I felt as if my heart began to race. Even though she's very standoffish and very apathetic most of the time, i'm drawn to her. She's the opposite of all the people i've ever been with.
"You know for someone who doesn't show a lot of emotion, it's a real sight to see when you do so."
Y/n stoped laughing and covered her mouth as a slight pink hue was over her cheeks.
"I'm so sorry. My laugh is very ugly."
"Are you kidding? It's a very adorable laugh. It suits you very well. Whoever put that in your head needs a brain examination. I like your laugh a lot."
"I'm sorry but the person who said that is true. I have become so fixated on the things they've told me for years. I can't remember the last time I laughed in public."
I frowned at Y/n's statement that she made. How could someone be so mean to say those things to someone.
"Well take it from me. A new person. Whatever that old person told you was to make you feel insecure about yourself. They were insecure about themselves so to make them feel better, they said nasty things."
Y/n stared at me as if I had sad something that made her question everything.
Soon enough the waiter came by and I payed much to Y/n's dismay. I drove her back to her apartment as well.Y/n POV
"You can just drop me off here. I can walk up by myself to my apartment."
"No I'm going to walk you up. It's common decency for me to walk you to your door and make sure you get into your home fine before I leave."
I sighed and got out the car as Lucas started to make his way up to my apartment.
"Alright. Goodnight and thank you for the dinner."
"It was nothing really like I said. In fact i've wanted to take you to dinner or hangout with you for a while now."
"What? Why?"
Lucas ruffled my hair and laughed as he did it.
"I don't know really. You're very cold on the outside and all but you have definitely got a good heart. Whenever I see you....I get a feeling in my heart and such. It makes me want to see you more. So if you want we can hangout tomorrow afternoon? If that's alright with you at least. No pressure or anything."
For some reason, my mind told me it was safe to go with him tomorrow. It was if my mood and mind suddenly changed about people.
"Y-yes. I would like that a lot."
"Alright i'll text you about the details then."
With that Lucas hugged me and patted my back. I was in shock that I didn't realize he was hugging me until he stopped. I watched Lucas walk down the hallway as he left. My heart felt different after that dinner with him that night. My question that lingered in my mind was why he said those nice things to me.3rd POV
Y/n heard Lucas's words to her over and over as she began to question her old beliefs. It was as if someone saw something else in her. She's always had a wall that surrounded her and wanted to make sure no one saw past it. However, it was as if Lucas was slowly picking his way inside of it. A small crack was made that night. Y/n and Lucas didn't know that the fateful night they spent together, would only be the beginning of an adventure of a lifetime.
