"I love you."
It was a phrase that couples would often say to each other when they felt that unexplainable emotion - love.
So why was it such a turning point for seventeen year old Choi Jongho?
。 。 。 。
"We're losing him!"
"No...My baby!"
"Go check on the other one!"
These were all phrases that Jongho had heard while he drifted in and out of consciousness. The blurred figure of his mother being embraced by his older brother was enough to make him fight against the drowsy sensation of sleep that threatened to take him at any moment.
It felt so comforting and it felt less cruel then the world around him, but the gut wrenching screams from the middle aged woman kept him awake.
It eventually became too much for the teen, who had tried too hard for the sake of his friends and family to stay awake. And so, as he let his eyes droop with the effort of staying conscious, Jongho let the deafening beep of death penetrate his fuzzy hearing.
。 。 。 。
1 week earlier...
Jongho caught sight of a very familiar ravenette from across the hallway.
Instantaneously, he could feel a smile bloom on his face, eyes coming to life as the girl fiddled with notebooks inside her locker.
Pocketing his phone swiftly, the brunette snuck up on his unsuspecting victim, holding his breath for a second before wrapping his arms securely around her waist.
Before she could turn her head to look, Jongho placed his chin on top of her head, his soft breaths eliciting a chuckle from the shorter.
"Guess who?" He murmured quietly, noticing that there weren't very many people in the hallway, and the people who were there didn't take much notice to the romantic scene.
"I really have no clue.....Jongho?" She quipped, tilting her head to the side to make the said boy lose balance.
As intended, Jongho tripped slightly, landing in what would be an awkward position for anyone else, but they were boyfriend and girlfriend. So when he had the younger caged between his arms while her back was pressed against the cool metal of the chipping blue locker, he couldn't help but lean in and place a passionate kiss on her lips.
The feeling was euphoric, and Jaeri couldn't help but lean in further to deepen the kiss.
"You guessed correctly," Jongho hummed, lips hovering over hers while their breaths mingled.
She couldn't contain the giggle that slipped through her mouth at the taller's actions.
"You're so cute," she mumbled, leaning back in to continue what he had started, but was rudely interrupted by a string of heaving noises from a few metres away.
Jongho, who wore a knowing expression, turned to face his older brother, huffing at the sight of the blonde.
"Really, San? Was that really necessary?" He hissed, eyeing the shorter boy quickly.
As a response to the question, San stuck his tongue out childishly. "Of course it was. I don't want my brother getting herpes," San chided, eyes flicking between the pair.
He watched as Jaeri smiled at Jongho fondly. She truly had become a family member in the year that the pair had been dating.
"We literally kissed, San. What is wrong with you?" the brunette laughed, not having it in him to be angry at San for longer than a minute.
It was what they were known for: brothers who were so close, even at their difficult adolescent age. Many described this relationship as perfect.
They did have their differences, such as Jongho, who truly couldn't wrap his head around why the blonde wasn't more focused on school instead of parties, but he would never let his mind dwell on it for too long.
"Yeah Jongho, but we all know where kissing leads..."
"And where's that?" At her boyfriend's words, Jaeri couldn't help but blush.
"Boys, can we please not talk about our relationship in the school halls?" She questioned, eyebrows raising as both quietened down.
"Yeah San. Let's leave Jaeri out of this," he snickered, watching as the older loosened his school tie. "Don't do that. It makes you look like a delinquent!" Jongho called, watching as San waved off his concern while walking into the distance.
"It makes me look sexy!"
Jongho choked on the air, breath hitching at such words.
"Do you think it makes guys look sexy to dress like that?" He asked, turning his gaze back to his girlfriend.
"Knowing that you won't take this any other way than opinion...I think it kinda looks sexy."
