A week later....
Beep Beep Beep
The monotonous noise lulled San to a state of absence as he thought through the worst things possible.
How was he to live without his baby brother?
He let his gaze drift over to his two parents, his mother enveloped in the warm embrace of his father, who had arrived home to find his son in hospital and his wife a sobbing mess.
It was truly a strange sensation. The situation hadn't settled over San, and so not a single tear had cascaded down his cheeks.
He watched Jongho intently, examining his skin. As pale as paper. That's how he would describe it. It was also littered with gruesome cuts and bruises.
A tinged red bandage was secured around his forehead, where he had received quite the blow. It was enough for the doctors to warn them about the dangers of a coma.
"My baby. Please wake up," San urged, eyes still emotionless and cold. He hadn't been able to feel anything since hearing of the accident, and that alone scared San.
What if he had gone in the car with them?
It wasn't fair to ask himself this. All that would of changed was that his parents would be facing a possibility of losing both sons.
What if he had driven instead?
He knew that between himself and Jongho, that the younger was more responsible on the road, so it would have done nothing.
Could he of been a better brother?
That's the question that hit him hard. To anyone else, they could see no faults in their relationship, yet here he was when Jongho lay on what could possibly his death bed, and that was what he questioned.
"Sannie?" A small voice croaked. Nothing more was to be said as the blonde snapped his head in the direction of his baby brother.
Jongho's eyes were peeled open, blinking rapidly at the brightness of the lights in the pristine white hospital room.
"Jongie?" He mumbled, the tears that he awaited finally rising to burn the back of his eyes, making his orbs look as fragile as glass.
Jongho could feel the pounding in his head. Every muscle in his body ached. Every part of his body screamed at him with each breath he took.
"Sannie. I-I'm so s-sore," the younger's quietly whispered, tears of his own starting to fall. But even that hurt him. "I can't b-breathe!" He exclaimed, voice loud enough to startle San, but not to wake his parents.
San knew he should of woken his parents, but it all felt so surreal, that he didn't believe that this was indeed Jongho.
He had packed a bottle of water in a flask to keep it chilled.
With a shaking hand, he reached over and placed the lid on the younger's chapped lips, hearing Jongho gulp the water down thirstily.
God was San shaking vigorously.
Was this even real?
He felt like he was going insane, but what snapped him back to reality was when his brother - who was indeed awake - wheezed in utter pain.
"Should I get you a doctor?" The older hesitantly asked, not wanting to leave Jongho ever again, in fear of the brunette's death.
With a curt - and rather painful nod - San stood, stepping towards the door, glancing back every few seconds to make sure that his brother was okay.
Jongho glanced over at his bedside table, and noticed the silver ring that he had given Jaeri only a few days ago.
"San? Where's Jaeri?" Jongho weakly asked, his voice slowly coming back to him, while he frantically looked around trying to get up but failing miserably.
San was extremely reluctant to answer the question, having not really grasped the gravity of the situation.
"Sa-"
"She died..."
So yes, love truly was a difficult balance, and this one tipped to heartbreak...
