The day of....

Walking through the garden idly, Jongho, Jaeri and San brought random conversations to the table as they strolled to the car on the warm Thursday morning.

"Yeah but if he hadn't said that, then we wouldn't have been there," San battled, eyeing the youngest quickly before tearing his gaze away from her in a huff.

"Grow up San. You're literally graduating in two weeks. Stop victimising my girlfriend for two seconds," Jongho tiredly mumbled, eyes drooping from exhaustion.

Jaeri couldn't help but stick her to give out cheekily at the eldest, her eyes examining his glaring orbs.

At least Jongho was on her side, right?

"Anyway, before you guys actually start fighting for real, you both driving with me after school?" The brunette piped, opening the drivers door to the car while glancing at the others doing the same.

"Unless something comes up and I have to change plans, I'm pretty sure I will be," San muttered, ducking into the passenger seat to buckle up his seatbelt.

"I will be please." Jongho hummed in response to both answers, twisting the keys to get the car grumbling.

As they pulled into the school car park, San had one more thing to say before he got out.

"I can't wait to see dad," he quietly whispered. He and his father had always been very close, so it always crushed him when the longest his dad could stay was for a short visit.

It really did crush his heart, but he had learnt to deal with that and so had Jongho.

In the absence of their father, they had grown closer to their mother who had been trying to fill the shoes of both parents. They truly did appreciate this effort, but every boy needed their dad.

"I know I can't wait either. Only a few more hours, and if we get through school quickly we can see him soon," Jongho replied, clasping onto his brother's hand tightly while sharing a happy look.

"I'm so happy for you guys. I know it's been awhile since you've seen him, but one more day of school," Jaeri hummed, her heart clenching at the sight of the two brothers sharing that brotherly bond that they were known for.

She truly did appreciate their closeness, and thought it was quite sweet.

"One more day." Oh how literal that was.

"Finally done. I swear, that Mr. Kim character gives me a headache," Jaeri groaned, resting her head on Jongho's shoulder tiredly while linking their arms.

"I know, right?" He mumbled, leading her to the exit, where they were to wait for San.

"Hey. You two!" The pair turned around, seeing a puffed blonde doubled over. "You go on without me. I need to talk to one of my teachers."

The couple looked at each other, sharing a quick smile before turning back to San.

"Good luck Sannie. See you in a bit." With that, they turned away from a smiling San and trailed to the car park.

They drove through the town, talking about everything under the sun. The conversation had jumped from puppies, to their future. It even lingered over their families for a little while.

And as all was right with the world, a toddler dropped their football onto the road.

Before Jongho could even comprehend what was happening, he swerved to avoid the three year old who had hobbled onto the road too.

His whole life flashed by within two seconds as he tuurned to see the petrified look on Jaeri's face.

"I love you," he croaked, unable to regain control of the vehicle.

That was the last thing he could remember before the car crashed into a traffic light pole. The gasps of bystanders flying throughout the sweltering heat of the air.

""We're losing him!"

"No...My baby!"

"Go check on the other one!"

These were all phrases that Jongho had heard while he drifted in and out of consciousness. The blurred figure of his mother being embraced by his older brother was enough to make him fight against the drowsy sensation of sleep that threatened to take him at any moment.

It felt so comforting and it felt less cruel then the world around him, but the gut wrenching screams from the middle aged woman kept him awake.

It eventually became too much for the teen, who had tried too hard for the sake of his friends and family to stay awake. And so, as he let his eyes droop with the effort of staying conscious, Jongho let the deafening beep of death penetrate his fuzzy hearing.

Oh how cruel this world is....
