Chapter 10

Emily

I was totally curious. Who was hiding underneath those glowing white eyes? Herobrine's eyes flashed back and forth between white and blue. He roared, dropping down to the ground in what looked like pain. I ran to him, crouching down, looking at him. Paul cried out. "Emily! Don't go near him! Not in such an unstable state that he is in right now!" I stood up, looking back at Paul, whose hair was flying in the wind. I let go of my hair band, letting my hair fly too. "We have to help him. If he dies, the mansion is no more! Everyone will die!" I said, sweeping my arm around in a semi circle. "Do we want that!? Do we want all of our youtubers, the ones who millions admire, to die? Is that what we want, Paul? I have to heal him, before this place goes crazy!" A tear shined in my eye. Paul looked at me in shock. "Why do you care?" Mitch and Jerome appeared behind Paul. Mitch looked at me, then at Herobrine, then Notch.

"WHAT'S GOING ON!?" He yelled, pointing to me. I could hear him say to Paul, "Has she gone crazy? Is she protected him?" I bit back a retort, trying not to cry. I collapsed to the ground, crying, my hands trying to support me. I heard a shuffle as Herobrine got up behind me. Mitch started sprinting to me, yelling "NO!" I stayed there, while Paul called out. "HEROBRINE! STOP NOW!" He ran toward me. In the moment, Mitch got to me, protecting me from a light that was increasingly heated. Then, everything exploded. "It's okay, I got you..." He trailed off, blood running down his face. Paul came over and forced me down, ducking as a whiz of lightning ran by.

"Thanks!" I said, standing up, holding my wand. I summoned a storm, shoving my wand in the air, the air crackling with energy. Paul readied his sword, and Mitch was getting a bow and arrow out. Where did he get that from?! I pointed my wand at Herobrine, wondering if it would do any damage. I looked at Herobrine, my smile fading away. It was Steve, not Herobrine, that faced them this night. With more determination, I channeled the energy stored in the wand into multiple deadly lightning shocks, shoving them toward Steve. Grinning, he put up a shield, directing the lightning toward the barrier of the nether. It was absorbed in the barrier, rippling out. Steve touched the ground, looking away.

He whispered, but I could hear perfectly fine. "So, you want to battle?" He said, in a lighter voice than Herobrine. "NO!" I yelled. "RETURN HEROBRINE! Please!" I said, pleading. Notch was crouching on the ground. "No." He whispered. "Leave him be." He said, louder. He stood up, his hand wreathed in a ball of light. Steve's grin turned into a frown as he turned to the voice. "Notch." He snarled. "How are you?" His face became emotionless, hard to read. Notch looked at him. "Just fine. And you? I'm sure being cooped up has its cons." He said, also emotionless. Brother against brother. Mitch looked at Notch, grim, lying on the ground. I crouched next to him. He whispered in a hoarse voice, "This doesn't look like it's going to be pretty." I smiled. "Agreed." I walked over to Paul and Jerome.

"Jerome, take Mitch back to the mansion. He needs someone who can heal him." I looked over at Paul. "This is going to be ugly. We need to stop it before it does." He nodded in confirmation. "Gotcha. What's the plan?" I stood in thought. "I got it. I'm going to sacrifice myself." Paul looked at me in shock. "WHAT! No! Emily, you can't do that." I was grim. "I can actually. I might be able to force a shield in time." Paul was angry. "You cannot do that!" I looked over at the two brothers. "You can't argue! Stand behind Hero, I mean Steve. If he falls, hit him with the hilt of your sword on his head to knock him out. It must be strong. Okay?" I said, holding Paul's shoulder. "This is our chance." Paul nodded, nervous. I saw Steve holding up a ball of fire. "NOW!" I yelled, sprinting to Notch and throwing myself in the way as the fire ball was released. I pulled up a half shield, not able to make the full shield.

Paul

I watched as Emily threw herself in front of Notch, arms flung out. The rainbow glimmer of a shield lasted for about 5 seconds, then Steve released the fire ball, right at Emily. Her shield held, then exploded, blasting her into the hedges. She slid down, unconscious. It worked, but eliminated her in the process. I bit back my cry out to her, approaching the conscious Steve laying on the ground, healing. I held my sword, glaring. "How dare you!" I said before shoving the hilt of the sword into his head. He fell down, unconscious. I stood there, defiant, before running over to Emily to see if she was okay. Blood trickled down her cheek, bright red. "Emily..." I said, stroking her hair. I picked her up, Notch trailing behind me. We walked down to the mansion, all of the others looking in shock. Adam was the first to speak up. "Paul.... what...what happened?"

"Steve happened." I snarled, pushing everyone aside as I ran upstairs and into Emily's cloud room, laying her on her bed. Jerome walked in silently, the floorboards creaking. I turned around. "Oh, hey Jerome. How's Mitch?" Jerome smiled. "He just woke up. Pretty bruised, but besides that he's fine!" I smiled. "I hope he recovers quickly. And Emily, on the other hand....." I trailed off, looking away. Jerome frowned. "I hope she's okay. She definitely took one for the team." He chuckled, blushing under embarrassment.

"No need to be sad, friends." I jumped, Notch appearing behind me. "I thought you were Herobrine! He does that a lot." Notch grinned. "Sounds like him. But, there is no need to be sad. Emily did her best." He looked over at Jerome. "And so did Mitch. They played their part. I hope they can help me for the arena. I am in need of their expertise in their subjects. I felt abandoned. My heart split. Notch basically said to me: "You weren't good enough, so I will go to someone better than you and use him instead of you." I sighed inside my head. I smiled. "They'll teach you well, trust me." Jerome smiled, the door to Mitch's room open as Jerome looked over, Mitch nodding and grinning wildly at the same time. He tried to get up, but Jerome rushed in and gently pushed him down into the plush white pillows. Mitch didn't even protest, but was emotionless.

"You need rest, Mitch. That blast was deafening. You're weak." Mitch looked up into Jerome's eyes, brown eyes meeting brown eyes. "I have never been weak, Jerome, I just need some regen and Betty and I'll be better." He said, smiling widely. Jerome laughed, and the two started cracking up. I chuckled, quietly opening the door to Emily's room. She was wide awake, but laying down, staring at the ceiling. I pulled up a chair. Emily looked over, smiling faintly.

"Good job. You saved Notch, but I was worried for a moment." Emily's smile vanished. "Is Herobrine still out there?" I shrugged. "I dunno. I guess, probably recovering. Everyone is gearing up, their expecting a huge battle to come. It won't be a nice battle arena, no, it's going to be bloody." I fell silent, the laughter of Mitch and Jerome echoing through the halls. Emily smiled. "Sounds like they are having fun. What are they even laughing about?" I shrugged, causing Emily to dissolve into giggles. "Why can't we have fun for one night? Just the rest of us. I'm sure it's going to be the best night ever!"
