"Noah"

I yelled out as the Elevator dropped once more like before for a whole two seconds. I stooped down on the metal floor, closing my eyes shut while the whole Elevator got consumed by darkness and it finally came to a halt again.

I shakily opened my eyes and looked around but could see nothing. It was pitch dark and even though I strained my eyes out, it was impossible to make out anything in this dark.
I slowly crawled forward on my hands and knees to search for the exit. But instead of the door I was met with the cold, hard cemented wall on the other side.

I patted the whole wall to understand if I was completely blocked or if there were still any small gaps of escape left. There wasn't any!

"Help!"
I cried out in fear and in anguish.
I felt the darkness consume me as tears rolled down and I slowly crawled back to the Elevator wall. I cornered myself while holding my knees near my chest and sat quietly.

The power back-up that ran on battery should have kicked in by now. There should have been light and I should have received any sort of help reach out to me by now from the speaker and microphone fitted inside the Elevator that was designed to help for this very specific reason. I had tried the help button, but that wasn't working either. Instead I was just stuck here until the Elevator finally decides to drop seven floors down and I die!
God! Wouldn't that be so convenient for all?!

A few minutes of sitting quietly at the same place without moving at all, I finally heard a loud thud above me. I looked up in the darkness. Was it happening again?!
Another two thuds back to back and the Elevator vibrated with it.
"Hello?" I yelled out in the darkness.
"Is anybody out there?!"
No response as the noises quietted down and I kept staring back into the darkness.

Suddenly the noises started again as I heard faint voices of people and the other of removing screws or bolts and metals clinging with eachother. I stayed quiet, trying earnestly to listen to any noise that came from above and finally after few more seconds of waiting, the Emergency exit door opened over my head. A gush of cold wind filled the small box I was caged in as someone spoke up,
"Ms. Scott, are you alright down there?"

"Yes" I said as I slowly stood up.
Strong, bright light flashed down upon me and soon enough a rope was thrown within the Elevator.

"Ms. Scott, tie it around your waist and grab my hand. I'll pull you up"
I hurriedly did what the man said from above and when I grabbed hold of his hand, I was quickly pulled out of the box.

"Are you hurt anywhere? Can you move?" The man asked in concern.

I nodded a faint yes as he gestured me to the side of the wall. I could see the floor exit few feet above me. Lora peeked in and called out my name, "Iliana"

I smiled at her unknowingly and saw that a rope ladder was hanging from the floor till where we stood on the roof of the Elevator. I looked back at the man who came down to rescue me and he nodded in assuarance,
"Please climb up, Ms Scott, everything is fine now"

"Thank you" I muttered softly and as instructed climbed up to the floor above.
As soon as I was up, Lora rushed towards me and hugged me tightly.
"Oh, Iliana, thank god"

"I'm fine" I hugged her back and I realized her stiffening for a second before hugging me tighter. I smiled, "You can leave me now"

She released and smiled at me when she was able to see my face again. A small tear-drop escaped her eyes as she tried wiping it away hurriedly so that I do not see it.
"Let's get you to the medical room"
I nodded at her and looked around.
There were five six workers already stationed by the side of the Elevator by now, all trying to get down and fix what caused the mishap. There was our Hotel's Security Head as well as the head of Maintenance Department who were talking among themselves. I looked around more, sweeping my eyes over all the people I didn't want to see as much as I wanted to see him and then finally my eyes landed on the man. Noah had just ran up the stairs, his phone on his ears as his eyes finally searched for me few seconds before meeting mine and he stopped, looking right back at me.
His anger slowly disappeared as for few seconds he eased down to show relief. He was out of breath after walking up the flights of stairs as he stood by the stairwell door, breathing in and out while silently staring back at me from the distance. It was so hard to watch him from afar as none of us spoke anything to the other even though probably our eyes spoke thousands of words with each passing second.
