Steve scrolled through his phone pictures, deleting some as he went. He didn't often delete pictures, he was pretty clingy with them. Occasionally that wasn't the case, like how he'd deleted that picture of Wanda and Nat as soon as he'd shown it to Bucky.
He'd only taken it because Bucky had previously said that while Natasha was sweet and caring when she wanted to be, she wasn't really a 'motherly' type. Steve said he was wrong. They bet five bucks on it, but agreed there had to be proof. Steve now had three more dollars.
He snickered, remembering how Wanda had called him out on it. But she insisted that she didn't mind, that she understood that a bet was a bet. She was a telepath, after all. She'd been hearing his thoughts the entire exchange, and if she hadn't been in shock, she would have been laughing at his nervousness the entire time. But she had asked for two bucks. He couldn't really deny her.
Speaking of Wanda and Bucky, they were both fast asleep to his left. Wanda was between them, her head on her chest. They were on a plane, and Wanda still wasn't sure about her feelings of the aircraft. She wanted to look at the window but was also intimidated by how high up they were. So she'd say in the middle, so she could still see out but also felt safe. (I don't know how to describe an airplane, I haven't been in one since I was a baby. I just know what I've seen in commercials and on tv.)
Bucky didn't like heights, it reminded him too much of the accident. So he was in the aisle seat. They were on their way back to Sokovia. They had to pick something up. Or rather someone.
The call Bucky had received had been from the orphanage. They had learned some new. Pietro was alive. He had been in horrible condition since he'd been shot, and they were certain that he'd die. But law stated he had to be in the hospital until he officially died. But the authorities had just told them to say that Pietro was dead, as the doctors had no hope for him.
But then he'd suddenly started getting better, and quickly woken up. Bucky had been called as soon as the orphanage had found out. Wanda was so excited. Also angry, which was understandable. They all felt that way. But Wanda was the kind of excited that kept her hyped up all day until she wore herself out. It was kind of funny to see her just bouncing with excitement.
He stared out the window. The colors were amazing, and he couldn't help but think about how he would recreate it in a drawing or a painting. Getting lost in thought, he didn't know a couple hours passed until Bucky and Wanda woke up.
A few hours later, the plane finally landed. Wanda looked out the window eagerly. "Look, Dads! Look!"
Bucky and Steve laughed a little but humored her. She was so excited that it was adorable. As they made their way through the airport, Wanda talked more than she ever had in the times Steve and Bucky knew her. She bounced on her heels, excitedly yammering about how excited she was- she got to ride in an airplane and see Pietro on the SAME DAY!!!.
Bucky looked her over. Her hair was tied up in a night ponytail, her black makeup was perfect. She was wearing a black and white Adidas t-shirt and a pink skirt with black leggings under it. (Natasha had insisted that she needed the leggings for period protection.) Her red backpack was swung over her shoulder and she was wearing her favorite white high tops. A pink denim jacket and a bi pride flag bracelet completed her look.
She had gotten the bracelet and never acknowledged it, she just wore it a lot. They weren't sure what to think about it, and they didn't want to ask. They suspected she was bi, especially after her blushed cheeks and flustered smile when a pretty girl about her age winked at her at the New York Airport. But they figured if she was, she'd tell them when she was ready.
Wanda caught Bucky looking over at her, eyeing her bracelet. She felt her heart skip a beat. She knew they were suspicious. She had planned to tell them the day before, but then she accidentally fell asleep. And then Bucky got the call about Pietro.
She'd decided that she was going to come out to her brother first, since he was her twin, and then come out to their dads. Then Peter. She was nervous, but her dads were bi. It wouldn't change anything. Peter also wouldn't care too much. Pietro probably wouldn't, he'd had some closeted friends, but she was his SISTER so maybe it would be different. She wasn't sure, but she had to do it eventually.
Steve hailed a taxi and they headed to a hotel where a room had already been booked for the next two weeks. They unpacked and got ready to head to the hospital.
"We're going to have to go to the orphanage tomorrow, Wanda," Steve warned her. "And you'll have to come. They want to do a check on you since you're here."
Wanda went pale. "You'll be with me, right?"
"Of course!" Bucky smiled reassuringly. "You'll be fine. You're our tough girl."
Wanda smiled at them. "Well, can we go see Pietro now?"
"Yep," Steve said.
Wanda squealed, jumping up and down.
