Tae Joo's phone rang. He was just getting home after work and the house was empty. He answered his phone as he laid on the bed tired.

"Hello"

"Hello, Tae Joo, is that you"

Tae Joo went quiet as he recognized the voice.

"Tae Joo" I can hear you breathing.

Tae Joo started tearing up.

"ok I'm going to end the call n-

"-DONt" He said as he sprang up from the bed. He started pacing up and down in the room. Tears not stopping.

With a soft low voice, his name was called out,

"Tae Jooya"

He sat down on his heels and started crying out loud.

In between his crying, he managed to let out what he was feeling,

"i.... it's not fair that you call me like this"

"I know but it's been a year"

"its been a year four months and 22 days," Tae Joo said

"9 hours 15 mins and counting" his caller finished

Tae Joo chocked on his tears.

"Gookkah..... I miss you"

"and I miss you more... so much" Kang Gook whispered.

Tae Joo cried some more.

"you never answered my calls" Tae Joo complained.

"I was not ready"

"Are you ready now?"

"I'm still not"

"KANG GOOK!"

"I know and I'm sorry'

Angry; voice strong, Tae Joo said, "I'm not doing this with you anymore. I'm done playing this game. I'm not waiting for you anymore."

Confident; firm tone he went on "I'm done missing you like crazy and loving you as if you are the last person on earth. It's not fair."

Desperate; Insecure, crying and unsure what to do, he pleaded, "Gookkah. I'm going mad please save me."

Kang Gook went quiet not knowing what to say.

"Gookkah"

"Tae Joo"

"noooo"

"JooJoo"

Tae Joo ended the call. He threw himself on the bed as he started sobbing. He was wondering how long they were going to be like this. Going in circles as if they didn't know what they wanted. Kang Gook had disappeared from the hospital as he had years ago, and he never heard from him again. He knew he needed time to heal his broken bones. He knew everything yet it still hurt. His mother came into his room heart in her hands. She saw Tae Joo on the bed crying, she rushed to him concerned.

She sat on the bed and shook Tae Joo.

"adeul, what's wrong? Why are you crying?"

Tae Joo got up and hugged his mother. He was in pain.

"Bring him back to me. You shouldn't have taken me away from him. See what has happened now. I don't know if I'll ever get him back and it was your fault."

He started screaming.

"WHY? WHY DO I HAVE TO FEEL THIS WAY? WHY DOES IT HURT SO MUCH"?

"shhh I was wrong. Stop crying now, my baby. I don't want to see you crying like this. Adeul!"

Mother and son went back and forth trying to reach an agreement. In the end, Tae Joo fell asleep tired. His mother was there comforting him. Stroking his hair fondly, her heartbreaking at seeing her son suffer because of a boy. She wondered what Kang Gook did to get such love from her son. Even in his sleep, Tae Joo was suffering and her heart broke some more.

She called Lee Jun and said she wanted to discuss something with him.

It was two weeks later that Tae Joo was coming home to a surprise birthday party. He was not interested in all that, but he appreciated his mother's effort of cheering him up. Ever since his breakdown, he was just down and worn out. He wasn't happy and anyone could see that. He cut the cake and chat some more with friends and relatives, but he wasn't just into it.

"I'll go lay down for a bit"

"Tae Jooya, you can't leave guests who came to celebrate your birthday."

"I never asked for a birthday party"

"Adeul, I did this for you"

"thank you" He kissed his mother's cheek and retreated to his room. He didn't turn on the lights but instead, he just went straight to his bed. He was tired. He didn't want any bright light. The dark somber mood in the room was how he was feeling inside. He had just laid down when he heard a lighter going on in his room. He looked up and he saw a lighter going to light a candle. No one had come in his room so he was shocked at seeing a person now holding a cake wearing a cap written I'm sorry.

He got up as the person revealed his face.

He froze.

Before him, Kang Gook was standing with a cake in his hand. He couldn't believe his eyes. Did he start dreaming the moment he laid down on the bed?

He went and switched on the lights.

It was Kang Gook.

He was not dreaming. He was ecstatic. This was the person he had wanted to see. Why did his mother hold him with strangers and boring people when he had everything he wanted waiting in his room.

Tae Joo was like a robot in his next movements.

He didn't say anything. There was nothing left to say between them.

He went to the door and locked it. Kang Gook was not leaving anytime soon.

He blew out the candle and put the cake away. The cake and singing could wait.

He pushed Kang Gook on the bed. That is where he belonged.

He took off his clothes. It was going down.

He was in the mood for birthday sex.
