Chapter 14

Julia once again was exhilarated by the chase; Beauty's strong strides keep them a length ahead of Geralt and Rose until she decided to slow her pace. Geralt and Rose caught up as she began to slow, laughing at the look of consternation on Geralt's face. Julia loved the competition, especially when she won. Still not quite to the river, she caught sight of it in the distance, looking at Geralt she smiled a coy cheeky smile. Just as he turned to talk to her, she spurred Beauty on laughing at the look of shock she saw on his face, as she pulled ahead determined to reach to the river first.

Arriving at the river Geralt saw Beauty drinking from their favourite place, as Julia stood looking pleased with herself. Chuckling at the smug look in Julia's eye's he jumped down from Rose and picked his beloved up swinging her around as she squealed in surprise. Letting her feet touch the ground Geralt kept her in a tight embrace staring into her blue eyes. He felt lost in the sea of her, never had he felt so completely at home in the embrace of a woman. Never had he felt so safe and loved as he did right now. Julia started to squirm in Geralt's arms, chuckling He said: "What's the matter, got ants in your draws?"

All of a sudden Julia yelped and stood on Geralt feet. "Not in my draws but you have landed me on their nest and they are making their way up my legs." At that Geralt let her go as she ran to the water walking in boots and all, washing them off. Geralt staired at the spectical as she danced and brushed at the ant in the water. Feeling indignat that they had disrupted their merryment he huffed at them "That wasn't nice of you ants" Julia looked up and with a mock frown said "Don't tell them off, it's not their fault a big oaf dropped his lady in their home" looking down again at her legs to survey the damage and satisfied that she was ok walked back out onto dry land.

Geralt surveyed the area and found a nice place devoid of Ants nests to lay out their picnic blanket. The Sun was now high, and a gentle breeze had picked up allowing them to enjoy the warm weather. Julia settled on the picnic blanket next to Geralt as he laid out their lunch. Nessie had gone all out with succulent fried chicken legs, Potato salad, Roasted vegetables, Nectarines and fresh peach lemonade. Hidden in the basket was another treat that was for after the question.

Julia was well and truly satisfied. Every bite that Nessie had made was bursting full of flavours that made her mouth salivate, and her stomach quiver with enjoyment. Geralt had talked as they ate, surprising Julia as they never talked whilst eating. He seemed to exude a nervous energy today that was uncharacteristic. The conversation till now have been mundane asking about what had happened whilst he was away. Julia stared at Geralt as he was picking clean the last leg of chicken. It was almost comical seeing his large hands holding the small leg to his mouth trying to salvage the final bits of flavour. She chuckled causing Geralt to look at her. "What is so funny?" court out she answered " I'll have to tell Nessie to pack more next time, you seem to love her fried Chicken" He chuckled along with her, acknowledging with a shrug his appreciation of the fine food.

Breathing in the fresh air Julia looked around. This really was her favourite place to be, so peaceful. Here there was no one in pain, no talk of war, or worry, just peace. She was so glad she could share it with Geralt, she wanted to have fun with him but to also just be. She heard a soft moan of appreciation that caused her stomach to tremble just slightly. She looked back at Geralt to see him biting into a soft nectarine, laughing at his obvious pleasure. Geralt looked at her his eyes shining at her laughter, oh how she missed this man, she was so glad he was home.

They had finished the food and were now just enjoying the sunshine. Geralt had stretched out his long frame and was lying facing Julia with his head propped up on his arm. She noticed his face had grown serious; his eyes seemed to be searching for hers. Patiently waiting as she had learned to do when Geralt was in one of these moods, she shifted to also stretch out and face him. Geralt looked down at his hands, studying them he spoke "Julia, I know this week was hard on you. I could tell by the dark circles under your eyes when I arrived home. I'm worried what is going happen if people start coming more to Wolnosci to seek me out. I don't want to cause you more heartache like Wilfred did when he went on his business trips"
