 Chapter 21

Geralt stepped into the room, the vision standing before him was breathtaking. Her reddish-brown hair was glowing as the sunlight hit her highlights. Her face lit up with a big smile that reached her eyes as they sparkled. The vision made his arms ache to hold her and he almost did until he saw the bundle she was holding in her arms. This was why she was beaming. The realization made his stomach drop, even though they had talked about it he still regretted that he would never be able to give her this one ultimate gift.

Julia could not contain the joy that was bubbling up inside her as she gazed from the little one in her arms to Geralt and Tobias standing in the doorway. Smiling at the awkward and terrified men she ussured them into the room. Julia and Visenna had helped clean Renee up and cleaned the bed so that now she sat up looking tired but presentable with her baby boy in her arms. As Tobias entered the room he went to Renee and fell to her side. Holding her hand, he kissed it lightly looking at her in awe he spoke softy "My love you have done a great job"

Renee smiled at her sweet husband noting the tired lines around his eyes. Ready to present her children to him she said "Tobias, here is your son" she held the tiny bundle to Tobias who with the help of Visenna adjusted the tiny bundle into the crook of his arm. He gazed down at the bright faced little boy, never in his life had he felt this connection and a strong sense of protection for another being. But this was his boy. Smiling as the infant went red faced as he made a hearty cry, he grinned at Renee saying, "well he's got a strong voice" She smiled softly back too tired to remark that he would get tired of those lungs in time. Julia came close to Tobias with another bundle and helped him place her in the crook of his other arm. Renee said softly in awe of their little surprise "and this is your daughter"

Admiring his daughter a softness schooled his features as a protective love settled deep in his heart, she would be his little treasure. Tobias sat on the edge of the bed lost in both his children. Renee was tired and was fighting sleep but she could not close her eyes hungry to memorise the image that sat before her. Both children had been fed before the men had arrived and she knew she should sleep. The last image she tucked deep in her heart was of her strong husband holding their children a look on his face that could only resemble love as his gazed was transfixed on her son and daughter.

Tobias looked to Renee and realised she was asleep. He signaled Julia, smiling she nodded her head in acknowledgement as she ushered everyone out into their small living room. Once they were seated comfortably Tobias decided there was someone in this room who had not had a turn at holding the little ones. He turned to Geralt and chuckling said, "Well Grandpa I think it's time you were introduced to your granddaughter and grandson." Julia who was sitting next to Geralt smiled as Tobias walked closer. She felt his arms tense up as he turned to look at her a panicked plea on his face.

Children did not like Geralt, in fact, most cried or screamed when he came near. The only two children who had not reacted to him like this was a little girl Marilka from Blaviken who had, in the end, told him to leave the town, and Cirilla who truly was the first to love him unconditionally. He did not hold infants. He looked to Julia with panic as Tobias knelt before him. "Well, Grandpa, ready to hold these two?" Geralt groaned and tried to give Tobias a cold stare for calling him Grandpa, but as Tobias and Julia helped to nestle the now sleeping infants in his arms he stopped. Their peaceful faces made his heartache and his chest vibrate with protectiveness. At that moment he knew no matter how long he lived he would be there to guard and cherish these two little ones.

Julia sighed smiling at the look on Geralt's face as he stared at his grandchildren. She knew that look, he had looked at Ciri like that and he had looked at Julia in the same way. She knew that he would do anything for these two bundles of Joy. She placed her hand on his back and drew circles across his shoulders causing him to look her way. Softly he spoke, "Julia, they are perfect." She chuckled at once again seeing her strong warrior humbled by the tiniest of humans. She might never get to place their own children in his arms, but Renee and Tobias had provided the next best thing, Grandchildren.
