 Chapter 23

Geralt moaned his body was on fire. In the distance, he could hear voices, and he was no longer wet and cold. His body was covered with a think blanket that was seemed to be weighing him down, Where was he, where was Julia? He tried to focus past the burning sensations to the voices, in that moment he relaxed a little. Both voices were familiar, one belonging to his wife Julia the other belonged to Vesimer. Relaxing fully knowing she would be safe he let sleep overtake him again as his body kept fighting.

Julia looked over at Geralt, she thought she had heard him make a sound, excusing herself from Vesemir she walked over to her sleeping warrior. She could see beads of sweat forming on his forehead and taking a cloth she dipped it in cool water placing it on his brow. Leaning down she kissed his cheek "Rest my love" she could smell the acred tang in his sweat of the toxins being expelled from his body. This was a good sign, the elixirs were working content in this knowlege she went back to her conversation with Vesimer.

It had been 5 days since the fight in the forest, Vesemir had heard the battle cry of the basilisk and had run to see what was happening. The creatures had such a hatred of humans he knew that if one was attacking, they would need his help. It was to his surprise upon coming to the area that he found the creature dead, and Julia hovering over Geralt. Moments after calling out to her another storm had unleashed a torrent of rain soaking the three of them. Julia had kept raving about answered prayer but Vesemir was not sure of that. He must admit however it was an effective way of cleaning the poison from Geralt's skin, allowing both of them to carry him to their horses. Vesemir walked with the three horses and Julia, Geralt was dragged behind on a makeshift sled and by early morning had arrived at Kear Morhen. Quietly Julia had tended to Geralt while Vesemir had set about heating up Geralt's room. There the three of them stayed both Vesemir and Julia taking turns sleeping while the other kept an eye of the wounded Witcher.

As Geralt slept Vesemir and Julia grew closer, as they shared resposiblitues caring for Geralt and each other. As the hours moved into days Julia gained courage to ask Vesimer some of her questions. Looking at the older man as they finished eating one evening Julia ventured to ask "Vesemir, I have never seen a Witcher fight before. Geralt did some things that I did not understand can you explain them to me? At one point he made this sign with his hand and then fire shot at the beast. I didn't think he was that powerful."

Vesemir chuckled, "what you saw was junior training for a Witcher, they are just simple hand gestures that allow a very simple spell, some are shields, some create a force to repel and what you saw last night is called Igni it is a pyrotechnic blast. I am sure that over time Geralt will show you what he can do, it seems that now he has gotten his strength back and his sword ability. Last night just shows he is finally completely whole." Eyes wide at the information that Vesemir was sharing she looked back to Geralt. His chest held a steady rhythm of sleep his strong muscular body healing quickly and now she knew there was even more to his mutation as a Witcher that would shape his life and hers.

That night Julia curled up next to Geralt, concerned that he had yet to gain consciousness since his fight. She knew that there was nothing else she could do but watch and listening for his steady breathing. Hoping that he would heal as quickly as Eskel had from the poison in his body. She intertwined her fingers with his and feeling the connection allowed sleep to take her. As she slept, she dreamed of a little boy in the same room they were in. His hair was a warm brown and skin was pale, he was sitting on the side of the bed tears running down his cheeks. As she knelt beside him, she wiped away a few tears. "Hello, my names Julia" she said, the little boy sniffled but looked up at Julia his big blue eyes shimmering with tears as he replied "My nnnnames Geralt" keeping her surprise from her face she asked little Geralt "why are you crying ?" the little boy looked up at her, his red eyes puffy and sore he said in a sad voice "My mum left me here and I'm scared."
