„He looked at her the way all women want to be looked at by a man."
~ The Great Gatsby
"So your birthday is twenty-sixth July?" Brian asked. He knew he was right but better to check and be sure."Yeah and yours is... seventeenth July?" Roger raised his brow. And then his face fell. "Oh my God it's tomorrow!" he shouted. A few people walking by sent him worsened looks. He didn't mind it. He and Brian were coming back from the outdoors cinema and his mood couldn't be better.
Brian let out a chuckle.
"Don't worry, my birthday is nineteenth July." he bopped his head. Brian was in a quite good mood as well. They watched Live And Let Die and though he wasn't a fan of James Bond, the music in the film made the justice for Brian.
The whole climate of that evening was charming. First they bought some ice cream and went to watch the movie, sitting on the sunbeds under the clear sky. It became dark somewhere in the middle of the film and it only added to the greatness of the atmosphere.
Roger has never spent more satisfying evening than this one in his life. Not even when he was going out to clubs and pubs. And Brian, who always preffered staying alone and doing whatever he wanted, also enjoyed those few hours detached from reality.
"Oh then it's on Saturday. But still, not counting today, it's only two days until your birthday! We have to make some plans!" Roger pushed at Brian's side with his hand and the latter pushed Roger with whole his body in revenge.
"Plans for what?" Brian put his hands into the pocket of his jeans. He wasn't comfortable when the talk was about him.
"Brian, we have to celebrate."
"Celebrate what? The fact that I'm getting older?" the curly haired scoffed and stopped walking.
They were in front of Roger's block and because the weather was nice and it was basically still warm outside at that late hour, Brian sat down on a bench that was marked as a bus stop. Roger sat down beside him so close that their sides were touching.
"Let's not forget that my mum invited me for a birthday dinner on Saturday. And that means that right after work I have to go there by bus and then take a taxi and then answer the questions about why am I not in a relationship." Brian huffed out and inhaled deeply because he was short on air after such a long sentence without breathing even once.
Roger used all of his stamina to hold back laughter at how bothered Brian was. Plus, Brian looked ridiculous in the strange angle of the light coming from the lantern they were sitting under. Roger wanted to point it out but then he realised that it was rather nice than ridiculous. And he smiled.
"Oh God, don't smile your teeth look scary in this light." Brian backed off, not shifting away from Roger. They looked at each other and after a second they flashed toothy grins at each other, laughing at it afterwards. "Anyway..." Brian cleared his throat. "Your birthday is next Saturday so we can celebrate then."
"Sorry next Saturday's night is reserved for my sister. She's staying the night and I can tell you that the morning afterwards is gonna be tough. For me at least, she can drink more than me without getting hungover and I envy her so much." the blond shook his head. Even though Roger said that thing about his sister about a million times, it still made Brian smile.
"Well then, let's celebrate now." he straightened his back and groaned when his bones cracked. Roger shivered at those noises and held back a comment he wanted to throw at Brian. Instead he decided to tease a bit.
"I thought you didn't want to celebrate. Did my charm made you change your mind?" Roger flipped his hair and winked, but Brian couldn't see that wink because he turned his head away and then shook it right after the hair flip.
