I WENT of my bedroom wearing my uniform and immediately headed downstairs.
Wait... Dad's here? I thought he was at work.
"Dad?" I called his attention. He paused mid-bite and looked at me.
"Oh, what's with that face?
I chuckled, shaking my head.
"Just don't listen to your dad.
Dad gave a sheepish smile. I remembered Mommy telling me stories about their love story. Their chemistry back then must have been adorable. Now, I wouldn't be surprised if they were the best-loved couple back in their university days.
"Kitang-kita ko naman, mom," I replied, joining their laughter.
"Palagi niyo talaga akong pinagkakaisahang mag-ina," natatawang saad ni Dad at sumubo ng pagkain niya.
"Why are you here po ba? Wala ka bang work?"
Nagkibit-balikat siya. "Wala."
I jokingly rolled my eyes. "Dad, stop that sweetness muna. I have something to say." Napatingin sila sa akin at kinunotan ako.
"Ano 'yon, anak?" tanong ni Mommy.
I took a deep breath and smiled. "Ako po ang napiling ipanglaban ng section sa Mr. and Ms. South-West," I said, and their faces lit up with excitement, which made me even more thrilled.
"Wow! Finally, you will join a pageant! I'm rooting for this!" nasasabik na sabi ni Mommy.
"You can do it, 'nak. Just like your mom back then," ani Dad kaya napangiti pa ako lalo.
Mommy had also joined pageants in the past, and she still keeps her crowns and sashes in their room.
"I'll buy you a dress. Not a typical one, unique dapat. 'Cause I'm sure you're gonna win that pageant, mark my words," dagdag pa ni Mommy.
"Thank you, mom..." I gave her my sweetest smile.
"You're making it so messy!" inis kong sambit tsaka padabog na nagpapadyak papuntang labas.
