Chapter 4: Happy Birthday (Part 1)

*Year 2268*

John's P.O.V

I was walking down the corridor that led to the cafeteria but I had no idea why I was going there. All day today has been pretty strange really. Dad barely said a thing to me today, all my friends at school have been either ignoring me or staying out of my way and even the teacher, Mr.Brotch, gave me extra homework for some reason.

"Did I do something wrong?" I asked myself.

I've been thinking about all the things that I have done recently but come out blank. All I know is when I got home from school...

I saw something weird.

~Flashback~

When I got back home from school, ready to get to my extra homework done, I noticed that dad wasn't here.

"That's weird, it's his break time by now" I thought to myself.

I dismissed the subject and thought that maybe it was important and had to stay in late or something. I opened the door that led to my room, raising into the air as I stepped in. I set my bag next to my desk and got into my seat.

Then I noticed a note at the front...

I picked it up and looked around it. It had nothing that it could tell who or what wrote it so I opened the seal slowly and pulled the letter out. I read what it worte in my mind, getting both confused and concered in the process.

"John, I want you to finish the extra work that you were given today before you come to the cafeteria. I was told that you were slacking in school so when you finish, I want you to meet me here and have a little chat about that. Don't take too long and see you soon, Dad"

My heart was literally beating a hundred miles per hour right now because I'm in so much trouble...

"Wait a minute, I've done all my homework and did extra before to get ahead, so how was I slacking?" I asked myself.

It must be some sort of mistake or maybe it was a mix-up with one of the other students, probably Butch. God, do I hate that guy but now wasn't the time to be thinking about him. I relaxed against the seat, put the note aside and got to work.

"This shouldn't take long at all"

~End of Flashback~

When I finished all my work, which was a lot and finished it in about an hour, I walked straight to the cafeteria and down the corridor that I was in right now to see what this was all about.

"This isn't some sort of prank, is it?" I thought to myself, now concerned.

I came around the corner to see the cafeteria but all the lights inside was turned off. I peeked through the window but it was pitch black inside so I couldn't see a thing. I let out an annoyed sigh since I was starting to get sick of this mystery and walked to the door.

I opened it and walked in, slowly and cautiously.

"Hello, anyone here?" I called out but on one answered.

The door slid closed and I was surrounded by darkness. I was starting to get really tense about all this and was about to open the door again...

When something unexpected happened.

"SURPRISE!!!"

The light came to life in a blink of an eye and I went blind, shielding my eyes with my hand. I couldn't tell who yelled out the words but I know it wasn't just one person but a bunch at the same time. Once my eyes were starting to adjust to the sudden light around me, I heard someone speak up.
