How can someone I've known for so long commit such horrid crimes towards the people they cared about? How could I have missed the signs? The thing that bugged me the most wasn't the fact that Travis was capable of any of this. Anyone is capable of murder but the fact that I was sleeping with the enemy and had no clue about it...That caught me.

Thinking back, I wasn't as involved in Travis' business like he was in mine. I was so distracted by the secret letters, sudden deaths, and people shooting at me to even pay any attention to what was happening in his life.

"Kayla?"

Then again, that was his plan. Get me distracted so I won't see him coming. He knew just what buttons to push when it came to me. I was an open book when it came to him and he knew it. He knew just how to get me to open up, regardless how many times I've tried to fight it.

"Earth to Kayla." Liam waved a hand in front of my face, snapping me out of my internal rant.

My eyes snapped to his, focusing on the crease between his eyebrows. "Sorry."

I hadn't realized we were parked in the drive way of my home until now. The house that stood two stories high looked foreign to me like I was away for too long.

I turned around to check the back. It was empty and I faced the front, letting out a sigh. Taylor had probably gone inside the house already. Our parents were maybe losing their minds over the whereabouts of their two daughter's who hadn't giving any thought into letting their parents know that they were okay. I was probably grounded for life, for pulling that stunt, and wondered what excuse Taylor had in store for getting us off the hook.

"You okay?"Liam asked, concern etched under every frown line.

"I just found out that my boyfriend is a psychopath. How do you think I'm feeling?"

Liam tightened his fists around the steering wheel as if the realisation of what I felt suddenly dawned upon him.

"My team is on it. You don't have to worry. In the mean time, I'll be around if you ever need me."

I didn't know what that meant but I nodded anyway, sighing. "Thank you."

"Just promise me you won't do anything stupid, Kay? I know you're upset but..." Liam paused, running his hand over his face. "I just don't want you to get hurt."

I looked away from him, focusing my attention on the closed garage door. The phrase repeating itself in my head...

I don't want you to get hurt.

Travis was probably having a laugh, at my expense, for being so naive, for being vulnerable around him, and for even sleeping with him. All his sweet talk about our future was just adding fuel to his never ending torture fest, filling me up with lies to fatten me up for the reaping of my heart.

"I'm already hurt," was all I replied, biting my lip softly.

Liam took my hand in his, squeezing my fingers reassuringly. "I'm here now. He won't get to you without going through me first."

I smiled at him, although it was forced but I just wanted to show how grateful I was to have him as a friend right now.

Opening the door the passenger side door, I stepped out of the car and started my way towards my house.
