Steven's POV:

How could she not know why or how she is here? She must know something? Right?

"What do you mean you don't know?!?!"

She started to cry, "I don't know!"

I walked over to her and placed my hand in her shoulder. She was back in her Rose Quartz form.

"I didn't mean to yell, I'm just confused and frustrated."

She continued to cry without saying a word. She has to know something.

"What is the last thing you remember? After you decided to give up your physical form for me, what happened?"

"I... I was here. I thought this place was nothing, just a gem afterlife of some sort. Then one day I heard you, I heard you speak and think. I realized I was still in your gem."

"You freaked out and the gem cracked."

"Yes, but I didn't mean for that to happen!"

"I know."

She sat up a little, straightened her back, and wiped her tears away. She looked at me expecting me to do something.

"So now what? Are we just going to share my gem?"

"I wonder if there's any way to split the gem in half, you get one side and I get the other."

"How would that even work?! It would be cracked then and neither of us could use it."

She stood up and began to pace across the pink clouds.

"Well, not necessarily. If we make a clean cut and don't break or shatter it then it should work."

"Do you know anyone who could do something like that?"

Her face lit up, "Bismuth!"

Bismuth it was. I left my gem and mom and told the others of our idea.

"There's no way that that could work!" Garnet slammed her fists onto the counter.

"HOW would that even work? I've never heard of anyone trying to split a gem so two beings could live inside it. Is Rose sure this possible?" Pearl said.

I responded by saying, "She is confident that Bismuth can do it. The worst that can happen is I have to share my gem with her, or we find out a way to make her leave the gem."

"Steven! Isn't that kinda harsh for your mom?"

"That's how it was supposed to be! She knows the consequences, but we're both willing to take the risks."

Amethyst added, "has anyone even asked Bismuth if she CAN do it? Rose may have faith in her, but what if Bismuth doesn't? Also, I thought Bismuth worked with weapons and armor and not splitting gems open!"

"I'll head over to little homeworld and ask her," I said as I walked out the door before anyone had the chance to say anything.

I was walking around little homeworld trying to find Bismuth. The first place I looked, was her smithing classroom. She was there, making a sword that was slim and extremely sharp looking.

"Hey Bismuth!"

Her face lit up when she saw me standing in the doorway.

"Steven!" She exclaimed as she ran across the room to wrap me up in a big bear hug. She would have squeezed me to death if I hadn't said anything. "Bismuth! A little too tight!"
"Oh, sorry Steven."

She released me from her grip, and then getting a better look at me, she said, "Steven! What happened to you!?!?! Why are you pink!?!? Why do you have horns!?!? What's going on!!?!?!?!"

"Calm down Bismuth! Everything is fine, but I need your help..."

"I'm in!!!"

"I haven't even told you what it is!"

"Don't matter, I'm in."

"Perfect!"

I explained everything to Bismuth, including what happened with my mom and the possible procedure she might have to do to separate us.

"Wait a second Steven! You want me to split your gem?!?!? I don't even know how to do that!!!"

"Well, you said you would help me!"

"Yeah, before I found out that you want me to do the impossible! I don't know if anyone can do it, much less me. It'd be way too dangerous!"

"We at least have to try! For my mom. She's already been through so much! She deserves a second chance, everyone does."

"Yeah but..."

"Bismuth, if you can't help me then I'll find someone who can."

"Ugh... fine, I'll give it a shot."

Me and Bismuth went back to the beach house to tell everyone. The crystal gems were not too pleased with the risks, but I told them that the risks were all my own. By this time Connie had let everyone in Beach City know that I had been found and that I was safe. Peridot and Lapis were there too, they both hugged me the second I walked through the door.

"Ok! So Bismuth! What do you need?"

Bismuth began to list the various items she would need, Peridot wrote them all down and she, Lapis, and Amethyst set about finding the tools for her. Connie and Pearl cleared away the furniture and made a makeshift operating table in the living room. Garnet and my dad were in the corner arguing, but I couldn't hear what they were saying. Once everything was ready I sat on the table and laid down. Bismuth sat next to the table on a chair, with all the necessary tools laid out before her.

"I have faith in you Bismuth."

Pearl's POV:

We were all told to wait outside so as not to distract Bismuth. I can't believe Rose talked Steven into doing something this crazy! But it was his choice, and we had to abide by it. If it did work, then wonderful! But if it didn't, then I would lose Steven just like I lost his mother. Hours passed by and not a word was said. We all just sat there on the beach anxiously waiting for the results.

All of a sudden there was a scream coming from the beach house, it was Bismuth. We ran faster than we had ever run before. We barged through the door to find Steven lying on the table shaking. He looked weak and in pain, his body was going into shock. Bismuth had already separated the gem in two, but it was obvious that Steven could not survive without the whole gem. I acted fastly and grabbed the second piece of the gem from Bismuth's hand, I carefully placed it next to the other half still attached to Steven. I then snatched his jacket sitting on the counter and covered a corner of it in Steven's saliva. I dabbed the gem with the jacket and pretty soon the gem began to mend itself.

Everyone was freaking out and watching nervously. Steven stopped shaking and his face calmed, he opened his eyes and sat upon the table. Disappointment filled his face, he knew what had happened, he was just sad that it didn't work out the way he hoped it would.

"Steven! I'm sorry! I tried."
Bismuth cried.

"I know, thank you for trying."

The question on everyone's mind, what now?
