Third-person POV:

Steven roamed around beach city for what seemed like forever, with his hands in his pockets and his hoodie over his head. He was still slowly turning into a monster again, no thanks to his mom. By now most of his skin was pink, the horns on his head were growing longer, and even his hands began to turn into claws. Whatever he was going to do he needed to do it fast, he didn't have much time left.

Steven stopped at a spot on the beach. It was actually the same spot where he had proposed to Connie.

"Boy was that a disaster." Steven thought to himself. He smiled when thinking of the event, he was so young and naive then. He sat down in the sand, close to the water. The soft waves coming up to meet his feet. The sun was setting and the sky looked as though it had been painted by angels.

Steven heard footsteps, it was Connie.

"How are you doing?"

"Bad."

"You know, I never realized how your mom isn't really your mom."

Steven looked confused.

"What do you mean?"

"Well, Garnet, Amethyst, and Pearl were the ones who raised you. They're more your mom than Rose Quartz is."

Steven chuckled softly.

"I never thought of it like that. You're right though. You know, I feel like Pearl is more my mom, Garnet is my super supportive aunt, and Amethyst is definitely the fun, cool aunt."

Connie laughed, and Steven laughed with her. Steven felt at peace whenever he was with Connie. Something about being near her just felt right.

"So... have you decided what you're going to do?"

Steven frowned, his thoughts left that of laughter and fun and began to dwell on the darker present.

"I told you, I'm going to find a way to get rid of her."

"And how are you going to do that?"

"I don't know, but I'll figure something out. This is my gem, she gave it to me and I will not let her take it back."

Just a few moments after Steven spoke, he began to scream in pain. Connie freaked out and tried to help.

"Steven! What's going on? Steven, speak to me! Please!"

He fell over to the side and starting shaking, his body slowly turned into a pinkish beast. His eyes glared pink, large horns protruded from his head, great sharp teeth stuck out from his mouth, he didn't look at all human. He looked like the monster from before, except he was not gigantic, he was still his own size. He roared with anger. Connie still sat on the sand, staring up at him in horror. His eyes met her, and she knew that the eyes looking at her were not that of Steven's, but his mother's. Rose Quartz had taken control over Steven's body. The beast lashed out at Connie, leaving a sizable scar over her left eye. She ran as fast as she could from the monster. Finally, she reached the steps of the beach house and bolted for the door. The crystal gems came running out, they had heard Connie yelling. The gems saw Steven and paused for a moment. Connie exclaimed, "It's not Steven! It's his mom!"

The crystal gems knew what they had to do, the only way to get Rose to go back into the gem was to poof the both of them and hope that Steven was the one to reform. Connie ran inside to grab her sword, Pearl pulled out her spear, Amethyst got her whip, and Garnet brought out her gauntlets. The pink beast began to thrash at the stairs, causing them to collapse. He then started to climb up the side of the cliff, crashing down on the house. The gems realized that Rose wasn't trying to hurt them, she was only destroying the house.

"She's probably just letting her anger out. I don't think she wants to hurt us."
Connie cried out.

The gems waited on the beach. Eventually, the house was completely destroyed, and the pink beast fell to the ground in exhaustion. Connie ran over to the monster, as it slowly formed back into Steven. His skin was still pink and he still had horns, but it was definitely him. He rubbed his eyes and looked around, "what happened?" Pearl pulled out a blanket from her gem and covered Steven with it. Turning into a monster had destroyed his clothes.

"You're mom kinda took control for a while."

"IS ANYONE HURT!?!?"

Pearl knelt beside him and assured him that everyone was ok. He began to breathe heavily, he was shaken and nervous. This was the very thing he was afraid would happen. They all helped him to the ruins of the beach house. Amethyst found some of his clothes still intact, so he ducked around a rock and put them on. He came back still shaking, he looked closely at Connie and realized she was gripping her eye very tightly.

"Connie! Are you ok? Did she hurt you?"

"It's nothing Steven, it's just a scratch."

Steven lifted her hand away from her eye and she winced in pain. Her left eye was closed shut, a giant scar was left, and blood was trickling down her face. Steven started to cry as he leaned in and kissed her face. Slowly the pain went away. Connie felt the area where the wound had been and it was completely healed. Both of her eyes were open now, and she hugged Steven.

Amethyst, looking worried, said, "So what was that exactly?"

Steven wiped his eyes and sternly said, "That was my mom taking over. She did that a couple of times out in the woods, but I didn't think she'd do it again."

Garnet stepped forward placing her hand on Steven's shoulder and said, "Steven, we have to find a way to let her go." Steven nodded in agreement. Garnet continued, "but first, you need to find out why Rose is still here. You need to talk to her again."

Steven sighed, "oh great."
