I Must Protect You

Steven's POV:

It was dark. Completely pitch black. I couldn't see a thing or where I was going, all I heard was a faint laugh in the distance. And then, I saw myself. It wasn't a reflection or anything, it was actually me. It was all pink and kinda glowing. The pink me just stared at his feet, then I realized it was him who was laughing quietly to himself.

"Who are you?"

"Who are you?"

"I asked you first."

His head was now turned up and his diamond-shaped eyes looked directly into mine.

"I am you."

He responded in a dark and deep voice.

"Where am I?"

He just laughed, the laugh became louder and more violent. At this moment I decided this must be a dream. Or it's my mind connecting to itself.

"Ah, Steven, Steven, Steven. What a shame. Always the hero."

"What are you talking about?"

"I'm talking about you!"

He straightened his back and smiled at me with a twisted look. His eyes glowing ever pinker.

"You think that you are different, but you're just like her. Just like Pink Diamond. I remember when this was her home, I used to talk to her and hear the rage and anger in her voice when she talked about the other diamonds."

My heart was beating fast as he moved closer.

"I am nothing like my mom!"

"You are exactly like her! You want to help others but you're insecure about who you are. She was the same. You have to be everything to everyone. But deep down you're the same. Deep down you're corrupted."

"I AM NOT CORRUPTED!!! NOT ANYMORE!"

He didn't seem to hear me or care. In an instant, he was gone. The dream didn't end though, in his place stood Connie. She stared at me with a look of disappointment.

"Connie!"

"What do you want? I never want to see you again."

"What?"

"I told you, I don't want to see you again. Why would I care about you? You're a monster! Do you think you're capable of love? Who would love something as corrupt as you?"

Tears started rolling down my cheeks, Connie would never say anything like this.

"Connie! I'm not corrupted anymore! I'm fine now."

I tried to reassure her but she wouldn't listen. She started to walk away but I ran after her.

"Connie! Wait! We can talk about this!"

I reached out my hand and my mom's sword shot out and stabbed Connie in the back. I ran and caught her before she fell to the ground.

"Oh no! I'm so sorry Connie! I didn't mean to!"

The tears were now falling uncontrollably. Her chest was all bloody, her eyes were open and void, she was dead. I tried kissing her wound to heal her but it didn't work. I can't lose Connie, I can't. I didn't want to hurt her, it just happened.

"I'm so sorry. I'm so sorry."

Connie's POV:

I was woken up by Steven screaming, jolting up in bed. He was breathing heavily and shaking.
