Levi

Boom. The sound of the main door being slammed closed echoed through the house. If I hadn't already known that my parents and everyone else was gone for the remainder of the week, I'd know it now. There was just no way of a door being slammed shut with Camila standing close by. She would have given anyone a stern talking to.

My parents had gone on a business trip and since they figured it would be a good idea to give Poppy and me some privacy so we could get used to everything that had changed during the last two weeks, even Camila and Dakota had been told to leave. Dakota had been supposed to take Rose with her, but Poppy wouldn't have it.

Of course she wouldn't. Rose was the only reason she had agreed to marry me. I'd guess she wouldn't let anybody take Rose with them ever. Even Kale had argued that it would be best for Rose to stay close. And of course he had stayed behind, too, telling our parents he would be the emergency babysitter if all else failed.

Given that it was just the three of us, not counting Rose, I figured it had been Kale slamming the door, since I'd never seen unduly behavior in Poppy.

As I was debating whether to rebuke Kale or leave him be, I caught a female voice.

"Poppy?", the girl yelled. "Ready to go?"

Guess, it had been neither Poppy nor Kale slamming the door then. I made my way downstairs, wondering if I would finally get to meet some more of Poppy's friends. But when I saw her it stopped me cold. It was that girl with the most annoying face ever. Abbi or what she was called. Poppy's one and only bridesmaid.

Poppy hurried down the stairs and came to a stop behind me. "Sure, let's go", she said holding Rose in her carrier on her right arm and a huge diaper bag dangling on her other side.

"Where are you going?", I asked.
Abbi, the witch, gave me another evil stare. Should I have been able to know where they wanted to go? And how should I have found out? Whatever. I shrugged.

"To the d-", the evil witch started to snarl at me, but was interrupted by Poppy immediately.

"The, ah, drugstore and mall. Rose is a little constipated today."

I stared at my wife. "She seemed fine this morning", I said challenging her. I was pretty sure she was lying but I couldn't put a finger on it.

"How would you know?"

"I changed her diaper this morning, remember? You were too tired to get your lazy ass up when she started crying."

"Was not." She blushed as she put her free hand on her hip and stared at me in disbelief.

"Sure you were."

"What's all this fuss about?" Kale asked, appearing on the stairs behind Poppy, who tried to make her way over to Abbi.

"We're going shopping", she said without further explanation.

"Why are you taking Rose then? She'll be bored out of her mind." Kale deadpanned. Where was he going with this?

Though not being the one he had addressed, Abbi raised her eyebrow. "Who else would care for her?"

Kale crossed his arms and glanced at her provokingly. "Are you saying we can't take care of a baby?"

"I'm not saying you can't. I just don't trust you two. Especially you, Levi", Abbi all but spat in my direction.

"Well, thank you. Since you know me so well, your evaluation really hurts my feelings."

"Stop it, you two. We are not saying anything. As much fun as is it to discuss your capabilities or rather your lack thereof, we need to get going. And we'll be taking Rosie with us, since she's my responsibility and not yours", Poppy explained, impatiently adjusting the baby carrier on her arm.
