4 | Cabin Brazil

"Hi, I'm Evangeline"

Well that was fast. I wasn't expecting someone to already talk to me.

"Hi, I'm Lyra" The girl hesitated for a bit and continued.

"Hi uhh...we want to play volleyball - she turned around and gestured to a volleyball court in the sand where a few other campers were practicing their plays. - and uhh, well... we wanted to know if you wanted to play with us 'cause we're missing a player to make the teams even" she explained.

"Of course, I would love to!" I responded eagerly. I mean- what better could I do right? Plus I love volleyball. I haven't been playing in my old school's team for nothing.

Time to make a good impression.

The scores are 21 to 18 for us.

We were separated in two teams of four. The team I was on consisted of a girl named Grace, another called Wendy and some guy called Mark...I think.

Evangeline was on the opponent's team with a girl and two other guys that I didn't bother remembering the names.

It was my turn serving the ball so I threw it up and hit it hoping it would go through. It went through but barely. At least we scored another point. I sighed and picked up the ball that was rolling towards me. 'Ok Lyra, we have three points left to score so don't mess this up' I though.

This time it was a good serve. Evangeline was able to move in front of the ball but she wasn't able to control it making it come back on our side of the field.

I squatted down receiving the ball then sent it towards Grace who was acting as our setter and she passed it towards Mark who tipped it onto the other side of the net gaining ourselves another point.

I was running toward the end line ball in hand when we heard the big bell ring stopping me in my tracts and also signaling us that the cabin assignments were going to be announced .

"Wait!" I exclaimed, gaining Wendy's attention who turned to face me. "What do I do with the ball?"
"Just leave it there, we'll come back to get it later" she responded after hesitating for a bit.
I put the ball down and followed her as she ran to catch up to the others who were already half way to the meeting spot.

The meeting spot was a small stage next to the main cabin. All the instructors were lined up on the stage, waiting for the campers who had slowly started to gather up around it. Amongst them I recognized Angel, the blond instructor who had helped me check in, she was talking to a pink haired girl next to her who had her hair tied back in a tight low bun.

Once every camper had arrived, a young man around the age of twenty, stepped forward with a microphone in hand. "Welcome campers. I hope you all had time to explore, get familiar with the camping grounds and of course admire the beautiful sceneries that Mountain Peek summer camp provides to us." He smiled, scanning the crowd before him and carried on. "But I'm sure all of you can't wait to know in what cabin you'll be spending your nights. So without further ado I would like you all to cheer for Janice our camp director."

For a woman named 'Janice', I was expecting someone short, in her 50's and that's probably very tired of life.

Well, she wasn't like that.

The lady that stepped on stage wore yoga attires showing off her tall and lean figure. By the face, anybody would give her an age range in the early 40's. Her chestnut brown hair was in a french braid with some rebel strands poking out here and there. She took the microphone that the young man handed to her and waited for the group to finish clapping upon her arrival. Her voice turned out a lot deeper than expected, raspy even like the voice of a smoker. "Hello dear campers, like you already know my name is Janice and I'm your camp director. Let's start right by first naming the campers who will be in cabin Canada with Cactus. " she turned to the young man who was earlier holding the mic in which he raised his hand resulting to every head turning in his direction. " With Cactus we have James, Mark, Daniel, Alexander and finally Edward. Please make a line in front of Cactus. " She continued on like that until she got to the last cabin.

Cabin Brazil.

"Cabin Brazil, you will be staying with Bunny." The last counselor was a red headed girl with round glasses and cute freckles complementing her shy aura. "We have here, Lucy, Lyra, Hana and Evangeline. That should be everyone, you can now ascend with your counselors up to the cabins and I hope you all have a pleasant time here at Mountain Peek Summer camp."
