When that final sentence left Luna's mouth, Y/N's oblivious face immediately shifted, giving way to one that was half-impressed, half-expressionless.
"How did you figure it out?"
Luna tilted her head to the side slightly. "This is a surprise. I expected you to immediately deny it, or even keep up the facade and pretend you have no idea what on earth I'm talking about. Why are you caving so soon? Have Wrackspurts invaded your head again?"
"Again? What, are they drawn to my head like a massive magnet, or something?"
"Don't change the subject." said Luna.
Y/N sighed and put his hands in his pockets. "You really wanna know why I'm ignoring her feelings? I warn you, you'll be disappointed. It's not exactly for some noble reason as someone like Harry would've done." he said, keeping his eyes averted from Luna's face.
Luna nodded. "Tell me."
"Well, it's actually because..." Y/N trailed off slightly before finishing with an evil smirk. "... because I really like messing with her."
Luna raised an eyebrow. "You really are horrible."
"Don't you judge me," said Y/N, still smirking. "her reactions are hilarious, I can't help it."
"So, you claim that you're simply toying with her?"
"Pretty much, yeah." Y/N said, with no hesitance or shame.
"You feel nothing for her at all?"
"Nope."
Luna stopped smiling. "First of all, that's despicable," she said, an odd look on her face. "Secondly, you're lying."
Y/N narrowed his eyes. "What makes you say that?"
"Because you've been prone to lying to protect your friends many times in the past," Luna firmly stated. It was off-putting, hearing her speak without a hint of dreaminess. "and I believe that this is one of those times."
Y/N stayed silent.
"What she feels for you us more than a childish crush," Luna continued. "and you know that. If it was just some silly crush, I could slightly understand you teasing her all the time, but breaking your best friend's heart into pieces is not something you would do. As cruel as you can be sometimes, it simply isn't in your nature to see your friends hurt, especially if you were the perpetrator."
Y/N had stopped smirking. He now wore a very tired and somewhat irritated expression. "You're too damn smart for your own good, Luna." he said blankly. "if only you'd use your brains for your own sake instead of wasting them for mine."
"That's rather unkind of you," Luna responded. "Aren't you supposed to show gratitude when a friend tries to help you out?"
Again, Y/N stayed silent.
"You know, Victor Krum has been in the library a startlingly long time ever since Durmstrang first arrived." Luna said, with a sly smile. "And I've seen him eyeing up Hermione several times, I'm sure you've seen it, too. I think he plans to ask her to the Yule Ball."
Y/N's calm expression flickered to one of extreme annoyance for a fraction of a second. Luna gave a very satisfied smile.
"So, I'll ask again," Luna said, in a voice that sounded a little more like herself. "What are your feelings towards Hermione? Do you love her?"
Y/N sighed again. "Of course I do. What's not to love? She's funny, kind, smart, loyal... hell, even her flaws, like her bossiness and her self-insecurities are what makes her so wonderful. But..." Y/N bit his lip. "I've never felt this way before, and it's too similar to the affection I hold for my siblings in the Orphanage. I'm honestly not sure if the love I feel for her is romantic or platonic. I don't exactly want to charge her down and kiss her, or anything, I'm very content with where our relationship currently stands."
