"What are we going to do? She caught us and we are definitely going to die now!""Runesu calm down ok? If you panic it is only going to make things worse."
Menhe's grip rested on Runesu's arms as a last attempt to minimize her frantic movement and reduce the likelihood of drawing any outsider's attention.
"She heard us Menhe! She heard our whole conversation! I have been on my toes since that night."
"How do you know? We only saw her at the end, she might not have heard everything, let alone understood what we were conversing about...If you keep acting like this, we will surely get caught Runesu."
Runesu clasped and unclasped her hands as she fidgeted in her stance in attempt to bring her nerves down, it was not working.
"How can you speak so lightly about matters so grave? We could die Menhe, do you not see! You were foolish to bring me out that night! Pokoda had more ears than usual and you decided to speak about our next move! Who knows how many more people know about us!"
"Can you stop shouting at me; you are also to blame..."
"I am not shouting at you, I am barely whispering Menhe!"
"We rarely have chances to meet and you would be so picky and sometimes not even show up, we have limited time."
A heavy sigh escaped from Menhe's weary body. Slouching his habitually straight frame, he allowed himself to relax for a moment.
"I am tired, I have not slept for two nights guarding the wall, I definitely have no words to waste on your endless chitchat, I will take my leave."
Menhe dropped his hands to his sides, retreating from this battle he could not win.
"If we do live another day, we will talk about this tomorrow."
Turning his back to Runesu, Menhe slowly walked away, exposing himself to the unhidden.
"You are so confident in this secrecy."
It annoyed Runesu to how easily he spoke of this matter; she was the one who nervously waited on Amasa in anticipation for the worst.
"I told you that there is nothing to discuss at this moment in..."
"Then let's pretend."
Menhe turned his body to face Runesu's big bright eyes, to confirm the sincerity of her words.
"What do you mean when you say pretend?"
"You know exactly what I mean, If you recall that night as I do, Amasa's speech pointed to her suspecting a romance between us Menhe, I have been observant of her when I attend to my duties, she looks at me with fire in her eyes and a subtle smile resting on her face."
"Are you completely sure of what you are saying? If we relax now, we won't have time to escape."
Runesu's eyes opened even wider as confusion rested on her face.
"Aren't you the one who suggested that I stop panicking moments ago? My mind could have been consoling me with that idea; I am at the brink of insanity right now nevertheless I do believe that that is what Amasa is thinking."
Menhe stared at Runesu; for once he had no strategy of attack towards a situation.
"Trust me, I know Amasa better than anyone, for once let me be your informant."
Runesu smiled, in hopes of lifting the tense atmosphere but it never worked with Menhe, his facial expressions hardly changed. It was a way of life, it was protocol.
