The wild Karimba fields looked so peaceful, the long strands of grass waved at each other as the rays from the sun graced the yonder complimentarily. Runesu sucked in the warmth that came with the fresh air, she needed this break. Pressure was enclosing her from every crack and corner, it was becoming unbearable to the point of paralyzing her. How was she meant to keep her composure when the weight she felt was bone crushing?
"Did you speak to the spy?"
Menhe's voice startled her. She turned to see him molden in place, sturdy and strong, staring directly at her.
"Yes, he just left. My father was very angry that his warrior was slaughtered by your men and wants to make his move soon."
"Understandable, but with King Toga's palace protection, it was inevitable that he was going to die. He was a sacrificial lamb from the beginning."
Menhe was calm. He was unphased.
"So, you killed him. Great, I got that."
She glared at Menhe as she spat out her words.
"Alright, I get that he entered the Pokoda walls... but the village killings? What is the meaning of that? Why is King Toga moving troops to Shintu village territory, that's absurd! why is he killing mere farmers? Those are my people dying for no reason at all and you call us Shintu people the barbaric ones!"
Runesu was becoming aggravated recalling this information.
"Why is King Toga agitating my father? He is throwing stones at a resting lion, he is already furious because of Amasa."
"If he had settled his debt with King Toga at the beginning, he wouldn't have taken Amasa in the first place."
"Hede Menhe! Please do not make me laugh! You want to justify my sister's kidnapping because King Narufu couldn't pay back the riches he had borrowed in drought?... Amasa was a holding for his loyalty to King Toga and you know that! And what does he do? He takes my sister for years to appease his bad spirited wife who was as barren as that particular drought itself!"
"You are always so foul mannered! I dread any interaction with you because it always ends up like this Runesu! Get a hold of your mouth!"
"No Menhe! You get a hold of your own mouth! My whole life your tribe has wronged my family and you want me to flash my teeth and smile at such stupidy! Eee no! I am a servant to my younger sister, I have been isolated from my tribe and now I have to bow down to the same people I want to kill every day!"
"You are senseless and full of anger that comes with your youth Runesu, calm down. We all have problems."
"You say that so casually because you lived your youth to the fullest. You are now just following your dream... my youth has been stolen by falsehood Menhe. Do you understand the depth of agony I have to bear suppressing my true self in every single awakened moment? "
Standing still in place, Menhe felt slightly sorry for Runesu at that point. Her small frame elucidated envelopment by the world, Amasa and Runesu were truly sisters. Their notions and breath were always controlled by the wants of higher powers, but for Runesu it was worse because she was aware of everything going on around her. To make it worse, her life revolved around someone else...her younger sister Amasa.
They stood in the grass field in silence for a while, taking time to breathe and reset their conversation.
"It will soon be over, hold on a little bit."
"Thanks."
An uncomfortable silence fell between them.
"Did you hear anything about Mimi?"
