Now let's get into it
(Not edited)
(Emily's POV)
The crowed cheered as Cole got another hit in. He watched as the man stumbled back into the cage behind them. I don't know how his opponent was still standing, but he still had little more left in him. Cole had his signature smirk on his face, but his eyes held nothing but darkness. Every fight he was in, he saw nothing but rage and only wanted to win.
A part of me wondered if fighting was his way of letting all the anger he had towards the people who killed Desiree out. I wouldn't have blamed him if so. Each and every one of those kids had a part of her suicide.
This fight was different than the one before. It looked more organized and put together. Instead of it being in an alley way, it was an actual building, which looked to be like an old gym. Although it was still sketchy, I felt much safer than before.
As I zoned back in on the fight, I noticed the man Cole was fighting was about to try and get a punch in. There was no use. Cole seen his slow punch from a mile away and effortlessly dodged it.
While the man was trying to regain his composure Cole didn't let him. With one final swing to the jaw Cole knocked him out cold.
Fans erupted in cheers once he hit the floor, me being one them. I watched as Cole scanned the crowed until his eyes landed on me. His smirk turned into a grin as he went to exit the cage.
I squeezed through the people around me trying to make my way to Cole. I tried to keep my eyes on the cage, but with all the people in the crowd it was hard. I finally got a clearing and looked up to see if I could spot his signature brown eyes. Unfortunately, I was interrupted by strong arms wrapping around my waist. Panicking I started kicking and yelling trying to make this man let go.
That was until I heard the familiar voice in my ear, "Calm down, it's only me." Cole whispered.
The panic instantly washed away as the warmth of his breath hit my ear. I turned around to face him and his hands rested gently on my waist. "So, how did I do?" He asked, smiling down at me.
Whenever I would find myself lucky enough to be in the presence of one of Cole's rare smiles, I often wondered why he didn't do it more often.
There was something about watching the corners of his lips tilt up, and the way his eyes gleamed. It was a rare sight that I was so happy to be able to witness.
"Wow, you did amazing. I wouldn't have expected anything less from you though." His smile widened as he guided me through the crowd and towards his dressing room.
"Have you ever even lost a fight before?" The fights I've seen him in he always moved so perfectly around the other opponents delivering fast and forceful hits. It's hard imagining that someone could beat him.
"I've lost a couple of my fights, more in the beginning than anything." He said truthfully, "but even now I still get wary of some opponents. I just have to be confident in myself and believe I will perform to the best of my abilities."
Knowing that Cole still gets wary about fighting some opponents shows that he isn't some indestructible beast that nothing could ever happen to. This just reiterates how dangerous and unpredictable this type of fighting really is.
As we walked down the long hall we slowly approached a dressing room. Cole used one hand to open the door while the other was still in my waist. He gently guided me in and closed the door behind us.
I'm not sure why, but once the door shut I suddenly felt the air get thicker. I haven't been alone in a room with Cole since the night of Desiree. I was filled with nothing but uncertainty of what his next moves would be.
"You hungry?" Cole asked snapping me out of my thoughts. It was then I noticed he was putting different clothes on. Something more casual than the basketball shorts from the fight.
I pulled out my phone and looked at the time. "Uh, it's 1:00am." I stated matter of factly ignoring the slight grumble of stomach at the mention of food. I wasn't opposed to eating, but what place would really be open this late.
"I didn't ask for the time Em," he snorted, "I asked if you were hungry? After fights like these I go to the diner around the corner. Usually I'm alone, but I would love for you to join me this time."
My eyes widened a bit at this invitation. Even after his apology seeing his nice side was extremely shocking. I knew that I would be stupid to turn down the offer, "I would love join you Cole."
"Let's go then" he smiled while leading towards the back exit of the building where his car is. He then drove us to the only building lit up on the block.
"This is one of the only places open when I'm done with my fights. At least the only place close by. I've come here for about two years now."
Once we entered the building a middle women came and greeted us, "hey honey, I haven't seen you for a couple weeks. I see you brought company." She said while showing us to our table.
"Hi Diana, I haven't had many fights recently, and this is Emily. She's my little sisters nanny." He introduced. Smiling I raised my hand in a greeting at the woman.
"You're sisters Nanny huh? She must be a little more to you if you're bringing her out to the diner casually. Here is your table and menu. I'll be back to take your orders shortly."
We watched as Diana left before turning our attention back to each other, Cole pushed his menu off to the side while I opened mine up to browse. "Do you get the same thing every time?" I asked noticing I was the only one looking.
"Yeah, I'm a simple guy, usually get the eggs, sausage, and fried bread."
I couldn't help but giggle at the mention of fried bread instead of toast. Being in London was still very new to me, "Oh okay. I'll probably just get the same thing then. Thanks for inviting Cole, it's nice being here."
Cole gave me a soft smile and nodded, "Of course Em. I meant what I said before, about things being different."
My heart jumped a little bit at the mention of his apology the other night. I so badly wanted things to change between us and now it was slowly becoming reality. It made me excited for the future and what's to come between us.
