Maybe it would've been better to keep their distance. After all, that's what's been working for them. Everything was going fine, at least it was for Heejin. But that's why the whole thing started, so Heejin would be okay.
Sure, Hyunjin cared about herself. But she cared far more about Heejin. Knowing there was a chance they could tear eachother apart if they went any further, Hyunjin put a stop it. Everything that had been done in good intentions for Heejin.
Now seeing how things turned out, Hyunjin was thrilled for Heejin. But then again, she was crumbling seeing how happy Heejin was without her.
Hyunjin stood alone at the kitchen counter top, eating a pack of instant ramen. One in the morning and not being able to sleep, it was always times like these when she missed having Heejin around.
flashback://start
It was almost two in the morning, and Heejin laid staring at the ceiling. She couldn't sleep, and the pint of coffee she had that afternoon wasn't helping.
Sitting only an inch away was Hyunjin, who'd been typing up an essay due the next morning. Rolling onto Hyunjin's lap, Heejin stared up at the girl.
"Go to sleep, it's late," Hyunjin said.
No response was given. Heejin kept poking Hyunjin's cheek without saying a single word. After a while, Hyunjin sighed and closed her laptop.
"Hungry?" She asked.
"Kinda," Heejin said, her finger still in Hyunjin's cheek.
Without another second pasting, Hyunjin stood up, and pulled Heejin outside. Being that they were extremely poor college students, the only thing they could afford to eat was instant ramen.
Heejin sat patiently as Hyunjin cooked the ramen. There was something so weirdly attractive about her, but Heejin couldn't put her finger on it.
"Here," Hyunjin said, sliding a bowl over to Heejin.
Hyunjin stood on the other side of the counter, watching as Heejin stuffed the strands of noodles into her mouth. Ramen was the only thing Heejin would willingly eat, and she finished the entire bowl within a few minutes.
Right after, Heejin leaned back onto her chair, patting her stomach even though she wasn't full. On the other side, Hyunjin had just picked up her chopsticks and lifted the noodles to her mouth.
"What?" Hyunjin said, seeing that Heejin was staring.
"Are you gonna eat that?" Heejin asked, pointing at the bowl.
"Huh? I'm eating-" Hyunjin started to say, stopping once she knew what Heejin meant. She knew Heejin was still hungry and this was her way of saying she wanted more food.
"No, I'm not hungry. It's all yours," Hyunjin lied, pushing the bowl over.
"Great," Heejin said, her expression brightening.
Hyunjin hadn't eaten a single piece of food for the entirety of the day. Needless to say she was ravenous. But Heejin was still hungry, and she couldn't say no to Heejin.
Swirling a wad of noodles around her chopsticks, Heejin brought it up to Hyunjin's mouth. Just as Hyunjin was about to eat it, she stuffed the noodles back into her own mouth.
"HAH, loser," Heejin said with her mouth filled with the noodles.
Even though she was hungry, Hyunjin wasn't upset. It was cute, how could she be mad?
Swirling a bigger bunch of noodles together, Heejin reached further across the table to Hyunjin's mouth. This time, letting Hyunjin eat.
flashback://end
A small chortle came out of Hyunjin as she reminisced the old memory. Before she could realize things like that were now gone, she finished the ramen.
In the middle of eating, her phone rang. Instead of picking it up, she automatically hung up. The ringing didn't stop there, the call came again.
Finally fed up, Hyunjin answered the call without looking at the caller ID.
"Hello?" She said.
"Hyunjin, it's you right?"
"....Heejin?" Hyunjin said, wiping the soup off her mouth. "Yeah it's me, what's up? Why are you calling so late?"
Hyunjin didn't believe it was actually Heejin calling. She couldn't. It had been so long since she'd heard that voice over the phone, she missed it.
"It's nothing, I just wanted to talk."
"Well...isn't Jiwoo there?" Hyunjin asked.
"Yeah, but she's asleep. Besides, I wanted to talk to you."
"Hmm, I see," Hyunjin said, trying to contain herself. "So~ what are you doing?"
"Eating."
"Eating what?" Hyunjin awkwardly asked.
"Ramen, what else would I eat at this time?"
"No way," Hyunjin mumbled.
"How about you, what are you doing?"
"The same thing," Hyunjin said.
"Oh, that's cool. Hyunjin, I'm bored."
"Same," Hyunjin said, leaning back onto the counter.
